Do you think this game will get taken too seriously like WOW?

I used to play world of warcraft and enjoyed playing with mates leveling etc but when we got to higher levels and it all became about raiding etc I found that suddenly the game went from fun to boring and annoying you pretty much had to join a guild and then it all became way too serious like its no longer a game but a job you have to do things at certain times and if you didn't do what they said or you made a mistake you just abuse and kicked. Does anyone think this will end up being the same?.

By the way can you even convince your mates to try this game ? My mates are still addicted to wow grrr.

I hope so, but hype is absolutely minimal currently, and we're only 2 month to launch.... Lets hope this same kind of sleeper-hit like Rift was, couple year back.

I think you might of missed my point I don't mean serious as in will the game get taken seriously I mean I hope people play for fun instead of like wow where some people take it a bit too far.

To be honest, I think that's the style Trion go for, to not waste money on marketing until it's close to the dead line, you find with games where they early on generate hype, as the game can not get released in a timely manner, people move on to other things.

Oh we will find out I think. Im personally quite interested to see how the forum looks like when theres some console guys too. I suspect we get good community here.

Rift community is basically full of oldschool PC guys, some new guys tossed in...

Well as a console guy who dabbles in PC gaming I'm looking forward to it gaining momentum and really becoming popular. Honestly there will be a lot of casual people playing and I doubt the game will become boring just because of guilds. The way they talk you can play alone and have just as much fun. But the draw of mmo's is the people.

I can't wait for this to launch. This is a game with a rapid growing community, console MMO, and I was able to catch it a few months before launch. I'm sorry but WoW didn't even have a t.v show to go with it. I like the aspect more of Raiders, Hellbugs, Arkfalls, Gigantic Monster battles with hundreds of other ark hunters, four wheelers, competitive side, and the PvE Side. It balanced unlike WoW.

Guilds and Raids can turn this into a absolute nightmare for the casual gamer. But it just depends on the person playing if the game will be taken to serious. There will be social or raid based guilds and then guilds that focus on both. Feeling will be hurt, fun will be had!

Pretty much every game has people that take it to seriously. Just gotta find the right people to play with.

i think the main reason why wow became the power house it is today is it was the first that truly made MMO main stream (i know theres plenty before it i used to play them, but mmo didnt come to light for most until wow), because it was the first (for most players) they did it all, and they did endless hours of it, until bordom finally set in.

no matter how hard others try you techincally doing the same thing in a different format, wether it be an instance, pvp arena or working for new equipment/loot. so although you may be doing gw2 dungeon or swotr. its still a dungeon like the ones you done 1,000 times before (enter - kill mobs - kill mini boss - kill mobs - kill big boss - end). with a different lick of paint. so its hard not to get mentally tired of it quick. (once that lick of paint has worn off)

other games do bring in quirks like new ways of doing things, like combat etc but they again bring back to that old set up wow made us all bored of. (interms of the rest of the game).

do i think defiance has a fighting shot? well the game itself brings other latches to the game that wow never had that should keep us interested. first and formost the tvshow which in its own right has a fighting shot of lasting (great actors, great unique story, good budget) so with this the game will keep a large audiance, how ever you could argue this audiance will be seasonal, as its buy to play, theres nothing stopping people putting down the game between seasons of the show.

As for the game its self brings another big card to the table, console market. now as we all know this market is tempestuous with games. i truly believe a huge life line that will truly make this game a wow killer, will be if in the future it can go cross platform! otherwise most console gamers have got a nasty habit of play for a month then move on when the next game comes out. with crossplatform it wont slowly die as people move on, as boredom sets in with quiet servers

so will it survive? only time will tell. but it certonly does bring some big cards to the already full market.
