Console concerns

Hey everyone,
I have been watching the game for a while. I'm really interested in it for the Xbox 360. i have a few concerns though. I think introducing this game at the end of the console cycle could be a serious reason that it doesn't do well. It may not even matter how good it is or not.

I have been trying to show it to as many people as I can and they seem interested but the main reason they won't buy it is the new consoles coming. I do understand how they feel. Nobody will want to spend money on a game that is long term mmo for consoles that are already being phased out. That limits the player base and sales, which usually spells disaster.

Now, I don't know if Trion has any plan but they have to realize this fact. I would love to see a way to play it on the new consoles but they won't be backward compatible. So unless they are working on a scalable engine that could have a major upgrade later, then it will seriously limit appeal.

I have played several games like that but it was on PC. I think it would be great to see that in the future. This would extend the game and make it easier to convince people to play it. It would also give them a chance to really up the game with what they could do with the new console hardware.

I just wanted to hear your thoughts. Not trying to be negative but it is a valid concern that I get from people when I try to convince them to buy it.

And please, before you say, "just buy it on PC" Realize that many people don't want to and you are limiting sales and a player base to one system.

If people are unwilling to buy it because they are waiting for consoles that don't even have definite release dates then that's their decision. The reasoning just seems silly to me but I suppose some people would prefer to just wait for an indefinite length of time.

i would like to think we have a better community here then just reply with "just buy it on pc", especially as they are valid concerns.

i do hope trion will enlighten this a little more as some people will be thinking about this.

however i would point out to them that consoles wont be out until the end of the year (if that early) so even still they would get much longer on this then the life span of other games.

not to mention given that this is being made in conjunction with a tv series (with the money there pumping into it) shows there planing on running it for many series yet. ie many years, so im sure they have this mind. maybe in 6 months new dlc for new consoles, so they can cover the cost of the port, but were not forced to buy a new game or the same game again. at least thats what i would hope.

as i said hopefully we will get word sooner rather then later but no rush

It really comes down to two things. Will the new consoles be backwards compatible. or will game sales warrant putting it on the new console. Trion shouldn't even be worrying about this at the moment because at earliest I believe the next consoles could come out is in holiday shopping time. By then both questions will be answered.

pretty much summed it up, if the new gen consoles are backwards compatible all your friends arguments are invalid, however on the flip side not buying a game just because your gonna wait and see what happens with next gen consoles that wont even release until late this year at the earliest and likely have only a few launch titles is a little ******ed in my opinion. personally i have it for PC although for either console it should be just as good (my preference for mouse/keyboard over controller), as far as making the game for next gen well if they are not backwards compatible then it would fall on trion seeing if it would be cost effective which is unlikely as most people who actually wanted to play it would have already bought it for the previous gen.

i still hold new dlc would be the route to port. we get something new, they make a few quid to cover the transfer. its win win.

i think the PS4 will be launched b4 xmas, they def want to beat xbox this time around and not have to play catch up like last launch.

yea i know the annoucements soon isnt it? ms have made no mention of when they plan to announce. so looks like sony is going to blink first

I keep hearing fall,but we will know soon as the rumours are heavy that both companies want to announce before E3 so there not over-shadowed by anything else.And i don't think either system will bother with BC this time round so i'm hoping Trion have a plan that there just not aloud to tell us about right now,like a digital client for the new systems that we can unlock for free with our game accounts maybe.

free is always nice, but i think i would understand a small charge (help fund the cost of programming it). maybe withing something in return like credits or dlc.
