Draw distance even with a stock scope is shorter than the range of the rifle itself. As for which type you like, buy a cheap version of each and try them a bit on the same gun. There doesn't seem to be that much of a practical difference in zoom, but depending on your skill level you might see a benefit going in either direction.

Btw I don't know which snipers you are currently using or what perks. So I will give you a couple more tips. The Volge Lightning Rifle doesn't always register hits even if it is a direct bodyhit.

Also the gunslinger perk has been known to cause snipers not to register hits in the past, and I am not sure if that was ever completely fixed.

This link is over a year old but it will explain what I mean about the perks. Although the last post in that thread is from August of this year and states that it is still an issue.

However that horrible dawn is coming real soon, so off I go to bed with this being my last post of the night!
I've had the same experience with the volge lightning rifle. Someone tossed a double crit oj one as an extra in a trade. Shot it enough to master it. Every aimed shot at the monolith tachmag drive missed, but most hip shots connected. It was bizarre.

It was only 2700 ego so I sold it to someone doing a giveaway for 20k, no regrets. Maybe once it's fixed it can be someone else's unicorn gun.

If you were on PCNA I would happily give you all of mine! I can't hit anything with those scopes unless the target is standing perfectly still and facing me directly. For one thing marksman sensitivity is too low for me in this game and can't be adjusted and high zoom scopes seem to mitigate the problem. So on snipers I always wind up with tele, and on ARs I usually use tactical (or assault--commando seems to sit in that uncomfortable middle zone for me).

Collarbone for the SS-2 (second bullet), and neck for a Bolt Action (any it seems)...
I already mentioned that a few posts back.
