im lvl 109 and i opend a tier 3 lockbox and got ither a red drop or dark orange gun and it had 2 bonus stats with with it. i guess what im wondering if i find a amazing gun will i still find better guns later in the game? or does a lvl 100 gun the same as lvl 500 plus gun? if so this might kill the longevity for me.
can anyone comment?

There are tons of orange weapons so the basic answer is no, not at all.

so do you find tons of better guns at higher lvls or can you still get the best guns at low lvls?
The most important thing with weapons is whether or not your playstyle meshes with the weapon you're using. If you got a legendary of a weapon type you're comfortable with, then you have to concern yourself with whether the bonuses on the weapon you got are any good. A highly accurate weapon with an accuracy bonus may be wasted "budget". So no, you may not use that weapon at all if it isn't a good type. I got a legendary rocket launcher and I threw it in the garbage since A) it was a gimpy basetype and B)it didn't go with my playstyle anyways.

I think the ego rating can go something into the 900s, if not higher, so no, not the best gun. The effect bonuses at higher ego would be much better. Have fun with it though, since every weapon has an exp bar that can cap off, there's only so much exp you can farm with any weapon. :[
I think ego goes to 5000. I have gotten 2 orange drops (both from the same tier 4 lockbox) and broke them both down because they weren't a good base weapon type for me.
