Until you get higher ego legendary weapons are irrelevant. It costs too much to keep them at your ego and you won't earn anywhere close to the amount of ark forge needed to keep them at your ego. Until you're 5k ego I wouldn't even bother. Take the time to learn the game mechanics and enjoy yourself. Patience is a virtue and defiance will definitely test your patience at times.
For PvE play, which is what I do too, having a Legendary class weapon does make things a little (emphasis on "little" here) easier, when I was playing my 1st character, I received a Legendary pistol very early on that I remembered it suddenly made progressing through the main story line and participating in arkfalls much easier.
However, as has been mentioned by others, the amount of arkforge required to keep the said Legendary weapon up to date with your current EGO level is not very feasible, unless you don't mind spending real money and buy arkforges. After your EGO outstrips the weapon by 3 or 4 hunder EGO level, which is pretty quick early on, you're better off just using whatever you happen to come by.
Nicely stated.
I'd only add a couple of more things:
- There are some legendary weapons that can be purchased through the reputation vendors (although they are not great)
- Not all LEGENDARY weapons are truly "legendary"... That is to say they may be ORANGE, but I've had purples and blues with great rolls that are better than some legendaries.
- You can make any unencrypted PURPLE weapon ORANGE with arkforge.

That's a great point that should be fully considered by anyone chasing the perfect weapon at lower levels. Over time much will change, as may your opinion about which weapons are actually worthwhile (particularly as more perks are unlocked, etc.)
Anyone trying to chase the perfect Legendary weapon at lower levels should listen to the Dead Milkmen's song "Big Lizard in my back yard" first.

yeah.. I was just outlining that after you said "Why do you want oj weapons that you aren't going to be able to afford to upgrade".
And considering this thread is all about upgrading/leveling weapons and Ark Forge its all good info to know. Even if OP didn't ask it, atm he doesn't even know to ask because he doesn't know how all this works yet. Not to mention other people looking for answers will read this thread to.
So yeah, getting Orange gear early on is not a total hassle as players can use that stuff at their full potential without needing to level them for PvP because PvP makes all gear and player levels the same when in it.
how do you know which is a major arkbreak? i know a major arkfail is the big red circle and I've also been in 1 arkbreak but i have no idea how i found it. Also, how do you know what a major event is? like, old faithful is a big yellow circle, which, for some reason, i never get anything for completing them. On the icons list, on the map, it doesn't show what symbols are for major events. I've also noticed, the only major events I've found, were in silicon valley. Is that true?
i learned a lot by myself because i haved played rift since its release, but some things i am just a little confused on. like, even buying mods for my gun, i rarely find shops to by them at.
