I thought shadow war is open world pvp?

Why do i have to queue up for it? i also havent seen it happening in the real world map (heard somewhere that you can spectate while some players are pvping).. so its instanced then?

It's not instanced, it occurs in the open world. You haven't seen it yet because it takes at least 32 players to be in queue for it to pop so it rarely happens. I've just had my first Shadow War a few hours ago. Seems like they're pretty rare at this point.

Rarely ? I can join Shadow War any time or I must wait several minutes but they are very common on EU server. Matchmaking is working fine and there is always somebody in a Queue.
And they are in real PvE world where you will wear PvP outfit af one faction and you will be teleported to the zone for Shadow War..but there are events non PvP players, missions... so its in normal PvE world where you can kill your opponents and capture points to score like in battlefield

Give it time. Everyone's rushing to be the biggest badass around so they can pwn nubs with their fully modded orange weapons and EGO rating of 5000.

Then you'll see more Shadow Wars. :P

God this game would be epic with more people in each shard/server AND open world PvP. Imagine some epic open world PvP 100 versus 100. I think I would stick around for something like that.

Now imagine all the clans rolling over solo players and ruining their day. Not that I don't think in theory that would be rad, but... when you throw actual people into the equation, they will always find a way to **** it up. :P

The Shadow War IS max 64 vs 64 so it can come near that 100v100 you're hoping for. And yes it's open world and not instanced. In the EU server I play it seemed that there were Shadow Wars every 5 minutes around 16:00 PM GMT, the queues were super fast. But later in the evening I could only get into the smaller battleground pvp, not Shadow War anymore. I guess people went to sleep or something. But lots of players and short queue at daytime indeed. Didn't see any 64v64, but more like 35v35 so the matches didn't get full yet.

Also the pve-people can be seen among the pvp-peoples.. Many a time I started shooting at players who aren't even in the Shadow War. I wish it was instanced to avoid this confusion. xD But no it's true open world pvp and you only get loading screens if you're in need of a teleport to get closer to the objectives, otherwise it just magically puts on and removes your pvp-clothing and pvp-status. If it was instanced they could probably throw you back to the exact spot where you left off to do pvp.. Right now you fight in the Shadow War and when it ends you may find yourself 2km away from the mission place you were at when it all started... So it's a long ride back.. :P Only negative side about non-instance..

And about why is there a queue? Because this isn't a pvp game and can't force players to have pvp on. So we need to queue the people who want to enable their pvp for this war. Also things and teams would get out of hand if pvp was always enabled.. It wouldn't be a fair 64v64 anymore, but 1000v1. We need queues to set up "fair" teams.

Also, there's some achievements that require you to play shadow war with like 15 clanmembers.. I wonder how the team autobalance will work then if there's 3 different clans doing that. Might get a bit uneven.

And yes you can spectate Shadow Wars, it even shows the Shadow War area on the map even if you're not taking part in it. It's a purple zone like the Arkfalls that are red zones.

Shadow Wars is consensual open-world objective-based team pvp. The reason it is consensual and not a FFA gankfest is because it would greatly conflict with arkfalls (the world events indicated by the large red markers on the map). Plus many people do not enjoy FFA pvp and a design decision was made as such.

I like the shadow war, tho i also wish it was much more open ended... such as actually choosing a side and swapping to "Competitive Mode" at will (small timer before you can switch back after taking damage or firing a gun to combat grief). Making cities captureable, and later entire maps as they're added. THAT would be open world pvp, as it is right now it's no different from any map based battleground.
