    Name Reservations

As a name is extremely precious to me on the Internet, it's part of my identity and person and having a synonymous name on the forums and in-game is just as important to me as having a computer to game on and a decent internet connection, I'd like to see name reservations for pre-orders, simply because people can be cruel and run around on the forums and snag names "just because". I'd hate to loose out on a name that is never used other than to troll other people.

I even feel posting this is a mistake because I'm sure you're going to get people who are going to run around, see this thread and be like "Time to make someone elses life miserable"

Even if it's not possible, would having a general blanket trion name work, such as something that is used in all games as a name with a code, like starcraft or guild wars 2.

I'm not even going to try and discuss with people who refuse to understand that a name means more to some than others. Everyone has difference of opinion on this, I just thought I'd post it.

    EDIT: http://forums.defiance.com/showthrea...-for-pre-order

Can merge if you like, sorry.

I agree I'd like to keep my names the same across all sites. War Master Degan is my persona, has been for years since my friends and I did D&D tabletop.

I think you have to ask whether the name you choose will be commonplace enough to even warrant reservation.

i always like to try and be unique, but its ever getting harder, i always followed 3 rules when naming any of my character (well tried to anyway) 1 i never used numbers, 2 never use terrible mis-spelling and 3 something with meaning, ie dead phoenix, phoenix represents something that never dies, constant rebirth, so a dead phoenix represents an end to everything. for me anyway.

How do you gauge commonplace? The name I've chosen is taken on certain sites, but not on others and there's plenty of people who have the name on steam. I think it might be commonplace because it's a spelling variant for "Memory" except that's exactly NOT what my name is, even if it ends up being perceived like that.

I think since the internet has been around a long time, most names in their purest form are mostly taken, sure you can make weird names and names that make no sense or hard to pronounce and get them, and there's always exceptions.

Being able to reserve a name is something that should be standard these days for pre-orders, it's all just opinion though, but I completely understand where you're coming from. A name that you choose should have enough creativity in it (your own creativity) that it is not commonplace so you never have a problem reserving or need to reserve... Or am I completely off the mark?

This is exactly why I try to have multiple identities I guess you could say. I try to keep some form or variation of the name, in the end I have certain numbers I would use as well which also helps keep my identity, but I understand the frustration to go to sign up somewhere and find out a name you use all the time is already taken -_-

I think it's more frustrating finding out your name has been taken and then finding out the account isn't even used.

I have multiple variations on my ID's so I can at least feel like me when I play with a name I like.

I have always had strange names as my persona, though this one has lasted me for pretty much every forum/site I join. It may not seem too original, and since this fits without breaking the three rules of a name (phoenix covered them perfectly) this stuck.

If they would at least allow people to keep the names they choose during the Beta, I'd be fine with that (while obviously wiping stats and items before launch).

...unless I get into the Beta and find out someone took my name, in which case I'm camping the servers on launch day

I understand wanting to use a name that you like, but who's to say you deserve it more than someone else? I think you may be exaggerating a bit in regards to the trolls out there who may steal your name. It may happen, but have a little faith in your common man.
