Im with you 100%. IV been watching defiance for around 3 or 4 months think I might like this. But as I started watching live streams its building up! Can't wait to get my hands on the beta and give it a whirl.

Heard the name a while ago. Never looked it up really, until I saw the official PS blog post. Instantly sold!

I first heard about it from the PS Blog and I haven't been this excited for a game since playing Resistance 2 online co-op. Played that for 2+ years straight. I really miss the teamwork gameplay with some people I met in there. I'm hoping some of them get this so we can play together again. My status message is a plug for the game so hopefully they'll be looking it up and joining in!

So many have over hyped themselves for a game once again. Given recent history of pre-launch hype and after launch fails, I expected more.

It's the equivalent of claiming your game has a crafting system just because you can slot gems into gear for additional bonuses. They have the cheek to call this a crafting system. How does this not send alarm bells ringing? What else do you think might be hyped up way beyond the actual situation? I guess if you're not a tester you won't know.

If you're into loot hunting, you'll be disappointed to know that there's only a few gear slots and most of it is cosmetic only.

If slotting mods, gems, or whatever term you want to give them, into a piece of gear is your idea of a crafting system, then sure, Defiance has crafting. Personally I don't see how modifying items through gems, mods or whatever term is used for any specific game can ever be classed as a crafting system and if it is what they intend as a crafting system then it's the worst crafting system ever. You can slot items into gear in many games, it's a modification system. To try to pass it off as crafting is deceitful and it worries me because it doesn't end there. In the end it's the players who will kick off anyway, but I suppose they'll have your money by then, this isn't a subscription game so I doubt they are too bothered if there's a lot of quitters.

im asking at what point any offical statment has said it has a crafting system. your complaining the crafting system is terrible and will only disappoint, but i havnt seen any info, infact only heard devs say basically theres no traditional crafting. just a modding system.

if you can find any i would like to read it. because i would have missed it. if they havnt then if people are disappointing at the crafting system then thats there own fault as i didnt think there was one.

EDIT: i see youve editted since i posted this. your right in that people would be very very disappointed, but they have been abundently clear as of release there isnt a crafting system, just modding. they plan to put more crafting in at a later date

Having watched the streams... they never claim to have a crafting system. They do however intend to have one that might not make it for release. I can tell you the exact moment in the stream where this is talked about. They never claimed to have crafting.

I seem to fall in the Meh to really hopeful group as well. When I saw the thread over on MMOC I was somewhat interested because I am desperately looking for a good American Sci-Fi show. We have gone almost 4 years with no American Sci-Fi shows, and only Doctor Who to comfort us. When I realized it was also a MMO it caused me to perk up a bit. For years I have been telling my friends that the future will be total immersion entertainment, combining TV and MMOs to create expansive environments. Defiance is the first one to do this completely. Technically SG1 when it was on Showtime did something similar with a Web Game homepage. Which is why I felt strongly that this would be the way of the future.

I should also point out that after 8 years of WOW, I am burned out on Azeroth. I still play new content when it's released, but I can't motivate to play like I did. Also my second favorite MMO closed it's doors recently (COH) so I need something new soon.
