People dissapear during Missions when grouped up?

I can't seem to play the story line with friends, as soon as i get to a certain point it throws us in a diffrent phase. whats up with that? i hope this is just an error and not an actual part of the game! if so that would be really bad and make me reconsider the multiplayer part of the game.
Will we be able to play regular open world missions together when in a group?

You have an option under the party menu to join a player. Make sure you click join phase first, then join player. Problem solved. Took me a good minute to figure this 1 out myself.

Is this also why some people get randomly kicked out of an instance - though no one was kicked intentionally?
