I find its about getting the right weapon to suit your taste's for a scenario. As such you use electrical weapons against the mech guys and mostly corrosive against the raiders. etc I do enjoy getting a new weapon testing out how it behaves then deciding on what to stick with.

    Ya no reason at all.

Oh wait, you do know you don't work directly towards "lvling your ego" right ? The "Ego" rating is just a power lvl indicator based off the lvl of your weapon skills (which do make quite a big difference even if the changes look small), and the number of ego power skill points you've accumulated.

If you think weapon skills and ego power side skills are worthless, you're smoking crack.

i like the way things are going with weapons, very slight upgrades...and in the end enough to make a difference but not enough to make you better by default then any other player.

My only gripe is the lack of long term reason for what im doing. Its like im playing a bland single player with the ability to go on multi player and pvp. Hopefully they add some sort of clan battles, and very difficult pve content.

If anyone feels that a major reward for levelling to cap and maxing out gear is so that they can feel like a bad*** when they go back to the starting area: you may have insecurities.

The progression is fine as it is, do people expect to go up a few Ego levels and suddenly be killing things 50% faster than before after getting a new weapon? Not to mention the problems it would cause in PvP..

They call it Gearing UP for a reason. Its not called gearing around, or gearing over. Even casual players who do not play 15 hours a day should get a sense of achievement for getting gear upgrades. The only endgame GW2 has now is pvp. Unfortunately that is all I see in this games future too unless they implement something.

The chance at new and more powerful gear is the reason games like WoW and Rift have a thriving online community. People have to put forth effort to get upgrades and progress their character. If you want to play a game where playing longer and harder does not get you anything except a different costume then that is your decision, but its obvious that most people were looking forward to pve content that was not horizontal.
Gear becomes null after every expansion and makes it harder for new players to join in. Add this to the PvP game and you have people not joining in, pvpers complain, leave the game and the folks who stick around have nothing to do but stand around in their high tier gear.

I prefer a system where we are using our knowledge of the skill templates combined with bonuses in gear to gain a 5-10% edge, the whole while improving our game skill to stay on top. This allows a good player to not have the gear and still participate, and crap players to continue to be fodder like they are in any game.

With that margin, everyone can play together, and future content can give relatively more options to veterans without excluding new and casual players.

At the end of the day we need people playing together to keep these games feeling alive and growing. Level based bonuses, and uber gear only splits us up in both PvE and PvP.

There are somewhat leveling ups, but it has more to do with the weapons themselves than your character. If you go into your stats it shows you how much experience you have with each weapon, and the higher the level of the weapon, the better you are with it. Even the cars level up. There's a rather noticeable difference between how much damage I do running over stuff in my car now than when I started. Same thing goes for all the weapons. Reloads are faster, damage goes up, aim accuracy, all kinds of stuff. It's perhaps not as in your face as "You Leveled Up And Gained XXX Stats!", but it is there. So by the time you've used your favorite weapons to hit 5000 EGO, going anywhere near the start of the game or to "old" areas of the map will most likely yield you kicking the living hell out of the stuff there faster and easier than you did when you started. And if you're bored you can always try maxing out all the weapons in the game before anybody else, just to say you did.

Stat progression like in World of Warcraft is all well and good, but most people play WoW at this point to play with their friends and get lots of purple gear for AFKing through the content. It's hardly a challenge and most people really don't have fun, they just have nothing else they'd rather do with their friends because that's what everybody plays. It's hard to want to uproot 10 of you friends and game hop from here to there looking for that next big seven year mmo fix. Well, that time is over, the golden age of WoW has come and gone. If you get two or three months out of a game, consider it a good purchase and move on if you get bored. Nobody forces this stuff down your throat and if you were expecting more, well, lower your expectations. The business model is to get lower populations of people using the in game store to generate their money. It's one of the big reasons companies pump out so many free to play games, so they have tons of money coming in from the cash shops. If you're hard up for a game like WoW, there's a lot of free to play games out there that give you a good MMO feel for a while, but stop looking for anything long term like WoW, nobody cares enough anymore and so companies aren't going to waste their time and money looking for the next big thing. Look at Star Wars as a good example. Millions and millions put into it and in about a year, it's free to play. If something with a Star Wars name on it can't make it big, what the hell would at this point? Just my two cents.

There are a but few moments in the MMO community where I feel proud to be part of it. This thread is one of those moments. So many times you go read a forum and it is full of whining and misinformation... Thank you to those people who have taken the time out to point out why there is such a huge difference between EGO lvl 100 and 1000, for example. Unfortunately, as with much of our society today, everyone needs to be spoon-fed information that they could find for themselves with just a tiny amount of effort and thinking on their part. This thread could have gone into a different direction. I am happy it led in the direction that it did.

And no, I'm not flaming or trying to start anything. I am happy you guys started a thread and got the information you needed. But, in the future, I do encourage people to come up with their own ideas about how fun a game is. For example, if you aren't going to play a game because you don't see the "carrot", why not make sure there is no such carrot on your own through playing and exploring the world? Many of you have already stated you are having fun. Wouldn't it have been cool to get to higher lvls and see the green items and rares that do good dmg, different bonuses, etc.?

Oh, and btw, some of the uncommon+ items do in fact have much higher damage as the power rating goes up. One of my green grenades has a min dmg that is much higher than other grenades I have found. If you pay more attention to the weapons, you will also notice that the same class of guns (smg for example) will have high dmg and low firing rate for example than another of the same class. Just have fun and explore. You really do need to find your niche and play style to match guns to.

Personally, I like this style better. Even with the most epic gear in the world, I shouldn't be able to go up to a "lvl1" wolf and get mauled for hours on end without taking damage. This also allows the zones to be truly free flowing and events can happen literally anywhere keeping the game fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if they modified the game a bit when people get to "the end" to make it a bit more perpetual, but if you came to this game expecting a typical loot farm, you didn't really know what this game was all about.

The majority of you are missing the point. We were told one thing and received another. You may enjoy or expect to be lied to, some of us hold ourselves to a higher standard. So when you say something, you better deliver on it.

The current system works fine, but the thread I linked illustrates a clear disconnect between the company and the player. The items are the same as the beta, so why was this changed or why were we deceived?

Is it better to out-monster the monster or to be quietly devoured?
