Not sure but sounds like a good idea too me.
That would be great to custimize armor appearence also upgrading uption would be great.

I saw a video where a guy had a cape and hood on. Is that for a certain class or is there light, heavy medium armor? Stuff like that??!
Customization is going to be one of the strongest point of the game. Its going to be very extensive like in End of Nation. Just check out one of the videos and you see theres lots lots of it. Sadly there seems to be one body type for female and male.
Do you have any video links talking about armor specifically?

Q: Will the outfits apply to all characters as often as we want? Also can we display parts of one outfit and parts of another, or simply one total package?
A: Outfits are purely cosmetic and consist of 2 parts – the main outfit and headgear. The Ark Infiltrator outfit comes with sunglasses for headgear. You can mix and match the outfit and headgear. Our preorder outfits apply to all characters on your account, and can be equipped and unequipped as often as you like.

As for weapons and armor, both look to be extremely diverse. The weapons look a lot like Borderlands with how they function; in fact there is a sniper rifle that looks a lot like an Eridian rifle. The Shadow war video also showed a bit of armor and customization and told us that as you get stronger and better at the game you can unlock special armor and clothing to show off to your friends how epic you are in combat. There was another video that showed how you customize weapons to get better results, such as placing a scope on a weapon to get better precision aiming or adding an extended clip for more ammunition.

SO just pure cosmetic, which is cool. So next question I guess is ten how do we have armor, or more health or dexterity etc..? Is that just something that levels up? Or do you put a point into that slot or something?
I really hope you can change the tint of your armor like in Mass Effect 3! I like to run with all white, head to toe armor. It gives my avatar a ghost like look.
