what eventually worked for me was I just used my vehicle to kill everything. Only got out to revive/free the ranchers. Did not do any damage to any enemies with my weapons or ego skill.
There is currently a "Wandering Hulker" Event RIGHT on top of the mission spawn so not even the ranchers are appearing there. Very vexing. >.<

XBOX users : This mission is still broken!!
1) At the start of the mission if you don't see the first ranchers in the field start the mission again!
2) If you see the ranchers,DONT RESCUE THEM,take care of all the raiders in the vicinity first!
3) After you rescue the ranchers they may appeear again,if so,DO NOT INTERACT WITH THEM AGAIN!Leave the field and go to the ranch!
4)There are 4 ranchers to be save like before take care of all the raiders in the area related to that rancher then proceed with the rescue.repeat the same MO with the other 3!
5)Ive tried this approch in the last rancher since this GUY is always the one that frozes allmost all the time,he needs to free the rest of the guys and for some reason end up a) stand still at the middle doing nothing b) frees the girl/lady and then froozes right there ! * I tried to let him died a couple of times and revived him while taking care of the raiders and he freed 3 ranchers then frooze *
* Tried taking care of the 2 raiders on top floor and taking out the rest from there and the guy was freeing the last rancher then just stoped there *
So... i've tried all possible approaches with no avail!
Fix this!

I'm on Xbox 360 and I've been having problems with this mission too, I get to the farm to save the ranchers and it doesn't register that I've killed all the raiders.
Yes we need this mission fixed or at least reset the servers like they did yesterday... this is ridiculous.
