Steam is a PC application created by Valve software that serves as a platform for buying and downloading games. There are already stupid amounts of games there and when you purchase them it links them to your steam account so you don't have to worry about losing/damaging CD's they will always still be available on your account for download.
I am not 100% certain but i believe it is also on the PS3?

Nice find, Hopefully those who bought it as a Digital download can link it to our steam account.

If they do decide to go all the way and actually put it there, if not its no big dead because you will still have to have a trion account.

You buy digital games from them and you can download them forever through their client. The games will be auto-updated with patches that you need so you don't have to which is nice. Also, there is a great community and you can chat with friends even while ingame. It's the best Digital-Distribution platform ever made. Says there was a concurrent 5.6 million steam users online earlier today so you know it's good stuff! -- http://store.steampowered.com/stats/

It's one of the more popular digital distribution vendors. Steam is known for its great seasonal sales. I like its library function for helping me keep track of all my games.

There are many other useful features of Steam. There is an overlay you can bring up in any game (even games that aren't on steam can have this enabled on them) with a friends list, built in voice chat, the ability to browse the web without minimizing the game, ability to private message people, there are groups you can join with forum-like elements, as well as other things. Perhaps the best two features, in my opinion, are the facts that you can take screenshots in any game you are using steam with and it will automatically upload them so that your friends can view them on your profile, and there are achievements for pretty much every steam game you can unlock.

The convenience of steam is far more than just a locker for games, though. Think of it this way... Every game you buy on steam is tied to your account. Just by logging into your account, you have access to all of those games on whatever PC you decide to use. If your computer blows up, and you get a new one, you can log onto steam, goto your library, and pick which games you wanna download. Every game you've ever bought is listed there, so you will always have them. This also lets you uninstall any games you have already beat and don't feel like playing, but may wish to play later. That way they don't waste space. Now, there is also the steam mobile ap... You can buy games from anywhere on your phone, and tell your pc at home to start downloading it, provided your pc at home is signed into steam. No special downloads required for that. Just need to be logged in on the phone, and your pc. It's really nice if you're like me and on DSL. That way you can queue up a new game download while you're at work or whatever. It also shows you in real time on your phone how fast the download is going on your pc, and what percent completion its at.

That was a bit more long-winded than i thought it would be. Long story short; Steam is a very valuable tool for any serious gamer.

    Edit cuz i forgot something:
Steam is well known for its game sales as well. You can get some of the biggest titles for 10, 15, 20, hell, even 50% off sometimes. I think Skyrim was only out for 1-2 months before steam had a 50% off sale on it. Game companies LOVE to put out discounts on steam, cuz steam gamers will buy the game if its under a good discount even if they have no intentions of actually playing the game. They're collectors. You can also buy any game on there for a friend, and most co-op/multiplayer games have special package deals for multiple copies. Like, you could buy a 4 pack of borderlands 2 and you got a 25% discount. Basically, you bought 4 copies for the price of 3 so that you could gift them to friends.

    Standard edition preorder in SteamDB

    The SteamDB info has updated.
Obviously, this does not necessarily indicate anything, but it reads like there will at least be a pre-order for the standard edition on Steam. I wouldn't be surprised if a digital deluxe edition gets added soon.

EDIT: Ignore please - Defiance is on steam in all its glory
