When you have three SKUs and have to update each one, it gets a bit difficult, especially if you're to the point where content has to be similar across all platforms. By having different UIs on a constantly-tweaked game you end up adding significant complexity to managing the game.

Don't get me wrong, the UI is a pain and the salvage matrix is so tedious to use (Double-click select item, double-click item, double-click breakdown for salvage, click start, click yes on confirmation prompt, start over with the next item), and I'd like to see it improved, but I'm not surprised it was unified.

Adapt, sure, to a certain extent. But the UI still needs some serious reworking to be more userfriendly. Heck, even the consoles could benefit from a redesign in the UI menus.

I'm doubting they ever expected to retain pc users.

It's maybe not a major problem since it does "work", and eh most of the gametime is spent running/driving around and shooting stuff anyway, but it does add that little extra annoyance and barrier to getting things done, and overall it's disappointingly poor and lazy design. I'd not have bothered to even comment on something like this 15 years ago, but at this point in the life of the genre there's really no excuse for not having an elegant and efficient UI.

what you have to take into account is...who is the majority? console players or pc players?
Regardless of which is the majority, we know there's a big enough PC playerbase to sustain PC-only MMOs, so I don't see that majority/minority really matters - it's not like there's only dozens of us. Just make a separate UI suited each platform - they're hopefully reaping the benefits of an extended multi-platform audience in the form of more (potential) sales, so you'd think they could put in the resources to do/get something basic like that right.

I'd love to see the Dev work on the PC UI. I understand it's a ton of work to get a game launched, but now that we are in post-launch, maybe the PC version get a little love in the UI department. As a few people have said, the salvage ui is just painful, along with the inventory system.

What sucks is that we have the most versatile peripheral, the mouse and keyboard, and it's completely ignored.

I'm just waiting for Trion to have to shell out more money for each patch on the 360.

If they aren't going to "fix" it for PC any time soon, the LEAST and I mean very LEAST they could do for us is to make it transparent!! (a transparency adjustment slider would be welcomed)

Seriously, it's so annoying being in the completely-screen-hiding-UI and then a whole buttload of mutants spawn around you and start shooting you. I shouldn't have to find a friggin "safe zone" to use the UI.

Really? This is your excuse to help cover TRIONs laziness?
You do realize there is a PS3, Xbox360 AND a PC version they have to patch INDEPENDENTLY?
They already have RIFT and that had a good UI for PC. You tell me why Defiance couldn't get a PC UI like that.
Esc isn't even the main menu for the game system. EVERY game has Escape key for system menu!
Your first round into the game is so confusing. You are even confused how to exit the game you first time.

People need to stop shooting down these kinds of thread with "Stop whining", "Get over it", "Adapt", "It's good enough".

We are playing on a PC, we expect a PC experience.

I cant tell you how many times the UI killed me because of its Clunkiness!
I hate having to find a safe spot just so I can check on my weapon xp or to switch weapons to one that isn't maxed.

People should shoot down these kinds of threads because we know and Trion knows the UI sucks. Posting a new thread every hour won't fix it or get them to fix it.
