Anyone else find Sniping a bit... iffy?

Don't worry, this isn't a raging mad geek freak out!

Generally it's great, headshots are super satisfying, however I don't know what it is but I just find I can only hit still target.. There something about the sensitivity, does it speed up? It just feels inconsistent, its not a major problem, but lets say... CoD NOT COMPARING however I do remember CoD sniping being alot easier, felt... smoother...

Tbh it might be just that i'm constantly going for headshots :L

The enemies move somewhat erratically which is a good thing. If they were predictable it would be too easy to hit moving targets. I still manage to get a perfect shot in now and then, which makes me feel good about my skill level (even though I'm pretty bad I think). If you think the NPC's are tough try it on players.... yikes.

The good news is, unless you base your entire build on critical damage, you should do fine just body shotting most enemies. Make sure you head shot the big baddies with the yellow backpacks and heavy armor though. You have to knock them to the ground first by hitting their pack, then shoot in the face to kill fast.

It's what Trion calls 'pixel perfect shooting', so you can easily miss if you're not taking the time to line up properly.

When going for head shots on humanoid mobs, aim for the throat instead of the center of the face. You're more likely to land the shot that way, and it helps compensate for the 'drift' in the mouse/controller when you hit the fire button.

Using this method, I can still nail head shots on running mobs that are headed towards me, while backing up to keep them at range. I can also hit head shots when they're running sideways for cover, etc.., though that's a little harder since you have to learn to time those shots to make them count.

Make sure to take the sniper related perks if you have cloak, that helps a lot. (Crit, nano effects, etc..)

One key thing to remember with sniping is that damage and critical multiplier synergize well.

For instance, let's say I have a sniper rifle that is 1271 dmg with a 3.0 crit multiplier. That gives me headshots on normal opponents of 1271*3.0 = 3813 in the face.

Get the above sniper rifle with an inherent x1.15 crit multiplier and slap a 1.03x damage barrel on it and it turns into:
    (1271*1.03)(3.0*1.15)= 4516 in the face.

Some of the perks around Cloak that raise damage or crit multiplier... combined with Weapon Skill... you can get some pretty insane hits later in the game. Early on... it doesn't matter because 3813 will one-shot many mutants, but later in the game (or at arkfalls or co-op instance) when things start taking more damage to kill... being able to crit-shot for 7-8k is REAL handy.

All that being said, I don't try to kill everything with sniper rifles when I'm soloing. Too slow. I pick off 1-2 foes, to even the odds a bit) and then switch to an assault rifle or something else that's more mobile.

This clears a lot up for me, i thought the attachments added o the total not just the overall damage

Don't use the extra damage barrel on the bolt-action snipers. Since those are meant for headshots, use the crit multiplier barrel as it is a higher multiplier than the damage barrels. On the semi-auto snipers though, the damage barrel makes more sense as you aren't always focused on the headshots.

I don't think it's the 'pixel perfect shooting' he is referring too. I love sniping but it is hard on here. The sensitivity is a bit weird on the 360, when I was playing the beta on the PS3 (I own the xbox version though) the movement of the scope was so smooth but on the 360 it's a bit jerky. This ends up making it a lot harder to hit moving targets.
