Well obviously Season 2 was good enough to award the Series a Season 3 from SyFy. Granted that isn't saying much when SyFy backs all the Sharknado disasters. But that's another topic. If Season 3 gets off to a good start, Defiance could very well enjoy being classed up there with the likes of Haven and Eureka.

When i heard about Defiance and saw the pre-pilot episode i was hoping to see something similar to the line of "Firefly" but stuck on a now alien earth. Then i watched the pilot, despite the horrible 3d integration (secially when olan annd Irisa reach that cliff in their roller and te graphics looked worse than the game) the volge got my hopes very high, the cold fire weapons, the impressive display of indogene technology! Sadly it only lasted that episode.

To be really good on season 3 Defiance should get a really large lot of technofudge, forget about politc plots, get us into action, bring all the enemy faction from the game, have a mutant outbreak, some more volge incursions and a grid conversion or two, and don't even think about forgetting Dark Matter!!!

Come on, the thing is all about surviving in this new earth, that aloe gives writters juice for endless episodes! But no, they had to turn a sci-fi show into drama plus politic plotting, ub-potting and under-sub-plotting.

Oh yeah, that's much cheaper for the production than doing real sci-fi. There was one show about politic plots within a "peaceful" invasion to earth, it didn't last long before it failed and it was written by Gene Roddenerry, do these guys writting today really thing they can do it better than him?

Oh, and one last thing: Did they change the make-up artists from season one to season two? If so, bring back the original ones because Irisa's make up was 100 times better on season one than it was on season two (golden rule for scifi series; Never, ever, change the appearance of an alien character between seasons)

See, right there, is the issue the criticizers have. You started watching with a preconceived desire for what YOU wanted the show to be. So, subconsciously, you were never able to see the show as it was intended. Defiance is Defiance. It's not, never was intended to be and never will be, FireFly, or any other established franchise.
And it's notions like this, that will eventually kill Defiance due to drops in ratings because viewers, like you, felt it didn't hold up to what YOU thought it was SUPPOSED to be; with no regard for what the writers and Directors intend for it to be.
I watch Defiance. I love Defiance. Because, it is Defiance.

Well all in all i have enjoyed the series and am looking foward to season 3. No i do not like every episode but that is true of every series i have watched. Some episodes are epic and you can watch over and over and others you watch once and thats it. I would like to see a little more acton mixed in but i do not what a show that is just about running around shooting or trying to save the world every other episode. Those go stale really fast it needs a mix to survive, war, politics, romance and human drama. Course you can't have a war with out politics they kinda go hand in hand. I am just sad about Tommy, for the rest i think their characters are finally getting some depth to them.

Problem here is that defiance was presentes as a Science Fiction show, not drama, not intrigue, not politics, as it turned out to be. If you aim at a certain public make sure first you chose the right genre, otherwise it may be a formula for failure.

Babylon 5 and Stargate were science fiction shows and they were loaded with intrigue, drama and politics and ithey did very well. I can not think of a single sci-fi show that does not have most if not all of those in it. It is based in the future with aliens that makes it science fiction.

And that's the difference. They did it well. Defiance did it poorly. I read fanfic that was better than some of the shlock we were handed for season 2. The Deus Ex Machinima ending was really perfect for how the whole season turned out.

I have enjoyed the show so far and am looking foward to season 3. Course some people thought i was nuts for liking B5 in the begining as it was consider garbage by many, same for firefly. Not everyone is going to like every show or see them the same. My wife enjoys Falling skies but i think it is boring so i don't watch it. Not everyone will like the show but that is how it is going to be nothing wrong with that.
