Story: We had a new player that asked several times a day for a good AR. I finally hooked him up with a beast t4'd Cannoneer VBI Assault Rifle to use...the guns was gone the next day. He decided he wanted strip the mods off to use on a "blue" rolling thunder AR with a different nano. He was done with the game two days later because his free xbl pass ran out. Oh how I wish I at least had those mods back. lol
This is one reason we usually only give away blues. The other being arkforge.

Well, some of the nice stuff has fallen way behind, one was 2000 behind and I had something I liked much better so I gave it to a clan member who had booked a few million points toward our rank in less than a month. She was kickin butt and in the trade she gave me something similar that had fallen about 1000 behind her own level so I could just pay it forward to another decent clan member. We have a few really solid members where even if they choose to sell it or leave with it, they have helped us and not caused any trouble so I wouldn't hold it against them.

Sort of funny though, the player that caused me to start this thread was doing much of what was described by Crack...asking, very directly, for weapons and scrip from others in the clan. One clan leader did give him some stuff to try to make him be quiet, but he was a very persistent one then tried it on another clan member, almost made that guy leave the clan which is where I drew my line.

    Trials from now on! :-)

I completely understand your concern. You don't want to look rude, but at the same time, leaders of a clan are there to protect their members from harm both inside and outside the clan.

I have some suggestions (and admit that I have not read all of the post in this thread, so I may repeat some thing someone else already said).

1-There are different types of clans. Choose which you want to be, if you have not done so already.

2-While it is good to stick to the type of clan you are, you need to decide which rules, or guidelines you can have some give on.

3-While some may like to have only guidelines, and not "rules" it is important to keep in mind that rules set boundaries, whereas guidelines are up to each person to interpret. This means that they can go to one extreme, or another and say that there was no rule that said what they did was wrong.

4-With each new challenge you face, remember that you are setting the president for how it will be dealt with in the future. If you let it slide now, the same give will be expected in the future. When a problem comes up, it is better to get together to decide how you want to handle it before it can grow into a huge problem.

Those are some thing that I have found out from my experience with a casual clan. We had to learn along the way, and I hope that it may help.

A few other things that might help would to make sure what rules are set in place before hand, and that they understand before joining. Make a probationary period for them to spend time with the clan to see if you are a good fit for them, and they are a good fit for you. During this time, it is up to you as to what you restrict them on.

What we do is we have a instant kick policy for the probationary period we don't advertise. This doesn't meant a single mistake will get you kicked. However, it does meant that if they intentionally break 1, or more rules, or are just plain rude, they are out.

If they are a regular member, depending on what they did, they might be put on probation after it is discussed by those who are leaders. When this happens, they are under the same instant kick policy as a new member.

Don't be afraid to be firm. Remember, they are coming into your house, and disrespecting your gaming family. If you are firm about the way they treat other members, then they will either correct their attitude, or they will leave or be removed.

But never forget that a leader is more than just someone that leads. They also must protect those under them. Games are full of those that will take advantage of others. But since games cover multiple countries, sometimes it might be a matter of explaining what actions are not acceptable. Where they are, it may be. Whereas it isn't for others.

Accepting others, and their culture goes both ways. Sometimes others may need to adapt to accept others, just as others need to adapt in some way for them, or another person. If they only care about themselves, and will not change, then it may be something you need to work out with the fellow leaders of your clan.

Finally, it is your clan. Only you can decide how you want to run it, and what rules you will have, and how strict you will be on each one. With that said, as long as they know the rules before or after joining, then they choose by their actions whether or not they belong there. If someone does something to get themselves kicked, then they did so by their own actions. And as long as their actions are the reason, then you have nothing to feel bad about for it. They are the ones at fault.

I hope this helps in some way. Have fun, and happy gaming.

    Razar.

    Thanks Razar,

It does help and I appreciate the fact that you took the time to write your thoughts out so clearly. Very nicely done as well.

I know how hard it is being a leader of a clan. I have made mistakes in the past by allowing someone to do thing for too long. It wasn't till a friend opened my eyes to the harm I was doing to the members of the clan that I realized the importance of being a leader in the clan. It means more than just leading, but protecting those under you.

I wish you and your clan the best, and that it grows beyond your hopes.

    Have fun and happy gaming.

    Razar.

Don't invite clowns into your clan, it saves you a lot of trouble.
