What? You guys dont enjoy listening to people struggling to breathe, their kids screaming in the background, their dogs barking, and random conversations with other people in their room that have absolutely nothing to do with the game just because 90% of people are too slow in the head to mute their mic? Why on earth would you want to turn your sound off.

People struggling to breath is probably the worst. I used to thing the weird static sound was a glitch or something, but I'm not pretty sure that it's just heavy breathing combined with a crappy headset.

The developers should have realized that open mic by default was a terrible idea. Most of these people you hear spamming the mic probably don't even realize that they are transmitting. It's another example of a console feature that was ported over to PC.

Turning off voice does not stop you from being able to hear other people, or your mic from transmitting. That option effectively does nothing. How about you do a review of your developers, having an option for you to enable/disable listening to other people and to transmit is not a complicated thing to code.

you can mute individual people in your parties which is the only time ive ever heard annoying ****. I tried asking them to turn their sound off but they continued to play without a headset and no push to talk.

honestly, people without headsets annoy me in any game that dont have push to talk and voip enabled by default.

It should be the developers oversight on a simple subject that should frustrate you.

This does not actually work in my experience. I have voice chat turned off and while I don't transmit because my mic is muted on my end anyways, I still hear other people.

However if you're like me and this does nothing for you, there is a workaround although it'll cost you 5000 scrip or simply joining somebodies clan. Basically, if you're in a clan it means that you always have another chat channel to switch to. What I ended up doing was making a clan for myself just so I had that option, because once you switch over to clan chat it effectively mutes other channels until you switch back. I have no idea if clans have their in-game voice chat channels or not, since I'm alone in mine.

It's still unbelievable to me that this "feature" made it out of beta in the state that it's in, at least for the PC version. It's not like Trion is new to making PC games, Rift was obviously a PC exclusive. One would think they would realize how bad of an idea it was, and I know the feedback has been there. It's not a difficult problem to solve, assuming you possess common sense.

Thirded for turning off voice doesn't turn off inbound. It's very annoying to have to hear it in multiplayer, which really turns me off the whole process.

(And I really wish I'd known about the always-on bit before, I was making my typical snarky comments which I thought were just to myself...only to later hear them over someone else's mic. Boy was my face red :P Muted my mic quickly after that).
