I think in this time of economic uncertainty world wide, it would behoove Scotland to stick around with the UK for awhile.

At least until after my vacation over there in August.

my partner and I will be voting for independence. there are arguments for and against, but too often nowadays we are being told what we CANNOT do, and how we couldn't survive outwith the union but not many people in the pro-union can actually talk about the benefits to Scotland and it's people to staying in the union.

don't get me wrong, i'm not blindly following Salmond and the snp, in fact the next vote in an independent Scotland I cast will be for another party.

One reason for independence is just that, independence. self determination. yes, we have our own parliament, so do Wales and Northern Ireland, but there is still so much that is reserved to Westminster that means we are not the true masters of our own destiny. we can't even consider our own space programme (if we even could) as outer space is a reserved matter.

perhaps, op, as an Englishman how do you feel about this constant rhetoric about how the Scots are subsidised by the English? you don't have your own parliament so can get Scottish, Welsh, Irish MPs voting on English only matters; i've always argued a local parliament for England was needed.

my need for independence isn't about the oil (its oor oil) or a lot of the other parochial arguments you hear nowadays. No, I want to be Scottish, in Scotland. I want my country to be recognised and accepted for itself, not as the poor cousin in a union that is well past its sell-by date.

as for the money argument, the evidence is out there; Scotland contributes more per head than it receives. reports have been put out by various political parties, think tanks etc over the years to back this up.

if we are "better together", why? better for who? this Union supported independence for Kosovo, so why not Scotland? Also, look at all the countries that have left the "British Empire", how many have asked to return? I could have this chip on my shoulder and say the union should never have happened, but it did, it run for 300 years, and now it's time to part. but the split should be amicable, we can still be neighbours to Wales, Northern Ireland, and England, and the working relationships will be better for it.

If we don't get independence then so be it, if that is what the Scottish people decide then I will accept that; I'll then encourage my bairns to do their own thinking so they can decide for themselves for when their time comes.

    Regards,

Id like to point out the question actually is "Do you think Scotland should be Independent" not "Do you want Scotland to be Independant" and the reason behind this is because asking if we want independance would get only about 33-47% yes vote. Its a trick question. That said I believe we are in a far better position in the world as part of the UK than we would be going it alone. So far about 80% of all the things SNP have claimed have been proved to be either wrong or pure lies. I am Scottish and I do believe Scotland should be ruled by a Scottish Government but I dont think Alec Salmond is the person for the job. All thats going to happen on this referendum is Scotland will either be Independent and finding it harder than we thought or Scotlands place will be Cemented into the UK

Right now? No. I despise Alex Salmond and no way on Earth would he get a pro vote from me. He clearly wants nothing more than to go down in history as "the man who freed Scotland" and is doing a very poor job at making it happen, thankfully. Don't get me wrong, the way things are just now are far, far, far from ideal but I can only envision Scotland going to wreck and ruin if we did get independence the way things are just now under the people proposing the change.

If we Vote no then my only worry is that westminster will turn around and say

' you voted no, sit down ,shut up and never ask for independence again.......now.....bend over time for a shafting like you've never had before'

and were pretty much up Sh*t creek and its our own fault we get shafted

If we vote yes, we might still be up the creek and its our own fault and if we vote no, we'll get shafted.

I think the odds are better if we go independant.....

I am living in Cornwall atm, but my fathers side of the family are all Scottish. I think Scotland should be free to govern itself. If they don't give it a try then when you are dying in your bed many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance, to come back here as young men and tell your enemies that the Scots may face greater financial risks, lose the security of UK, and gain little that further devolution would give, rely on a foreign bank and be in damaging competition with its closest, larger neighbour ... but they will never take ... OUR FREEEEEDOMM!!!
