If the a game is going to be made cross-platform is adds alot of limitations, especially for PC since we won't be able to do alot of stuff that we can do now.

Cross Platforming in games will always be announced when the game is since it isn't a decision that can just be implemented randomly, it needs to be in the base of the game and built around.
FFXI was cross platform on PS2, xbox 360 and PC and PC players coudl do a LOT of stuff on FFXI that 360 and PS2 players couldnt so umm yeah

As stated, DCUO was never cross play. There were two separate servers.

Cross play doesn't work for it (and I assume for this too) because of the amount of red tape Devs have to go through to put MMOs on consoles. There are constantly sales for example on DCUO's PC servers but rarely on the ps3 servers because of issues regarding PSN and the PSStore. Not to mention, consider how much you'd crash if the servers would all integrate. Each system has differing RAM capacity, PCs can have as much RAM built into them, while consoles are limited. While Final Fantasy XI was crossplatform, the userbase wasn't as big, and the game really lost steam after sometime. I was late to the game, and when I started there was literally no one in the game towards the beginning. FFXI was also relatively easy to run on Xbox, where this game seems to keep crashing on it and the servers continue to go down. Cross platforming on this scale will not work due to these issues.

I may be wrong on some points, but I think these would be the reasons behind it, besides obvious marketing issues.

Microsoft and Sony don't want you to be able to play with your friends on their competitor's consoles. It's the same reason none of the battlefields and modern warfare games are cross platform

Although I can understand that side of the argument to a degree, it seems really counter-productive to me. Now person A cant play with person B so neither of them buy the game.

The corporation will say "If you want to play together, then buy our console" but who is going to drop that kind of money for a potentially short term investment.

The extra income generated by allowing people to play together would almost certainly outweigh the income generated by a handful of people who have the disposable income to buy a system just to play with their friends. Some people probably would, but the majority of us wouldn't entertain such an outgoing.
