No social aspect what so ever, game is doa.

So I have been having a blast, the gameplay is great, but the world feels dead. I play mmos for the social aspect much more than the gameplay. This one feels DOA. I think it could be the best mmo of all time, gameplay wise. But, there is no sense of community, hell there is NO community what so ever. I have been playing for 4 days straight and have only seen one person chat, and he was just asking if chat worked. I am already about to walk away from this one. Wish I had never bought it at this point.

I feel you bro. No social aspects, no trading, no char progression, no end game. This is what makes an MMO. It's all not there. What remains is an Open world Co-op game with an OK story line were you will walk through and then you stop playing the game. It's a boring dead world with only a handfull of (repetitive) things to do.

The one underyling common string in these threads, is that nasaly whiny socialite cry about how they need to chat, but they can't actually outline a proposal to the developers with specifics game(Defiance) related reasons as to why.

Yet you felt the need to give us your opinion, in an entirely new thread on an already over blown subject.

Can I recommend Firefall or Fallen Earth? They are two great, post apocalyptic themed (with their own differences), online games with gun weapons and plenty of community in and out of game - if that's your thing - yet even with full chat systems and group dependencies you still won't find a lot of chatter boxes, because they are spending their time playing the game.

Maybe you should do the same, or just accept these games are different than MMORPGs.

I can live without the social aspects, the lack of drama is a lot more fun, lol. The other things, I really cannot say much about, haven't had the chance to REALLY play the game.

I play FireFall and it's a great game. Pity it's community chat mostly consists of whiny brats, *****ing at other players, accusing them of stealing their Thumper spots.

Trion needs to know their game is far from finished ...

They probably do know, it's not like Trion put together the game with the intention of stopping right after it was released. Just takes time and patience, they probably know all about the game, they just need some patience from us as they go about either a redesign or placing in something new. I can't complain like the rest of you, my only problem thus far has been the chat lag period and mouse latency, I'm thinking it my be my computer system, it hasn't had an update in a while.

Take a deep breath and let it out! It will be fine. All games have a rough go the first little while.

To be honest, I am enjoying not having a chat window constantly giving loud-mouthed kids an avenue to be obnoxious in.
Realistically, look at any current MMO and try to tell me that their community (in-game OR out) is worth a damn.

If you really want to have a whine; then you should be aiming it at the chat limiting CLAN or FRIEND interactions specifically.
Or do as I do - use voice comms!

I personally dont much care for socializing in MMOs. I play them for other reasons. So since my personal preference is the opposite of yours, does that mean Defiance is going to be the greatest most successful game of all time? Of course not. Your own personal tastes & reasons for playing MMOs don't determine the success of a game. Especially when socializing is high on your list in a game like this.

Really don't get just how much socializing you expect people to do in 1) a brand new game where everyone is too busy checking out the game, not standing around with nothing to do chatting away and ranting about their pets, kids, or whatever else they also spend their day babbling about on Facebook & Twitter 2) a shooter where stopping to type to someone will get you killed fast. There's a reason most people playing shooters rely on voice chat not typing.

MMOs are social games. I think it's pretty understandable to desire social functions in a game built around the idea of playing the game with 100's or 1000's of other people.

There are plenty of times when a larger area chat would come in handy. For example telling that guy with the Rebounder he's ruining the Destroy the Crystal Hellbug Arkfall by killing all the little guys. A lot of people have gotten used to being able to ask basic questions in game to the zone they are in cause it's been in nearly every massive game for the last 8+ odd years. They're unable to do this and instead come to the forums to complain about X or Y only to find out that they just didn't understand the system.

Yea, chat also becomes an avenue for trolling but oh well.
