How do you find the co-op maps? Do you get access so far into the story or are they away from the beginning areas?

You unlock the co-op maps as you progress through the main story quests. A pop notification will let you know when you unlock it. After that just press N or navigate to the Co-Op page, select the Co-Op to play and hit the matchmaking button.
