The number isn't required ego, it's the ego level you were when you got the weapon. Weapons seem to scale as you do, so new weapons are always useful ish.

The other number, if I understand your question correctly, is related to synergy. I haven't worked it all out yet, but purple and higher weapons have bonus effects if you are the right starting build. This tends to be in line with the different types preferred weapon styles, so rifles will often have bonuses for survivalists for example.
