    The "Expedition Survival" Guide

    im bear grylls, i go to some of the most dangerous places on earth, to show you what it takes to make out Alive!

    ive traveled the globe facing challenges, in the sort of places you wouldnt last a day, without the right survival skills!
    Now, im in Defiance...

    one of the most Beautiful, Extreme and Dangerous places on the planet. im going to be taking Expedition Survival Situations to the breaking point, to show you how easy it is to make the wrong decisions and what the consequenses could be.

    the difference between Success & Failure often rest on the knife edge of Preparation & Strategy... get it wrong and u can pay the Ultimate Price!

    ======================
    Loadouts:
    ======================

    Guns - High Damage Per Sec/High Critical Weapons!

    Detenators, Assault Rifles, SMGs, Sniper Rifles

    You want to use weapons that Deal Alot of damage in a short amount of time, you will be facing alot of enemies at once & need to eliminate them as soon as possible before being overwelmed.

    Shields
    - Use High Capacity Shields, Resparks dont last in Expeditions!

    You want to find a shield with a High Capacity, By high I mean atleast 20,000 or more. The Higher the Better! The Ideal Shield u should have going into an Expedition is a Guardian Angel

    This shield willl Refresh your Self Revive by 20% each time the shield breaks! A survivor Shield can also grant Revive Refresh So keep an eye out for Arkhunters Selling them.

    If you cant find one of these Try to Find an Ironclad, Rebel or a Rhino Shield... or if you bought the Chimera DLC even the Chimera Claw Shield, these types of shield also have a high capacity & can help u survive longer in Higher Tier Expeditions.

    Nades - Stock up on all grenades Before & In Between Rounds, u WILL run out!

    Using grenades for effects like Poop shoes & stunning enemies with flashbangs can make a difference, you want to help the group advance to the next round. Every little bit helps, especially in Higher Tiers!

    Spikes
    - Stock up on all spikes Before & In Between Rounds, you & your group will run out.

    Ammo spikes will help refill the entire groups ammo pool, Expeditions dont drop as much ammo as in the open world. Running out of Ammo in an Expedition can be fatal if your not prepared.

    Damage spikes will increase the groups Damage of every shot for a small duration of time, take advantage of this against Mob swarms, Elites, and Bosses!

    Protection spikes will grant your group an extra 30% Damage resistance against enemies! You will be able to withstand enemies that would normally 1 shot kill you a bit longer, with a Protection Spike planted.

    Each Armor Plate is 10% Damage Resistance...
    3 armor plates on your legendary shield + 3 armor plates from your protection spike = 6 armor plates!
    Thats 60% Damage Resistance!

    Tip: assign group members with 2 damage, 1 protection, 1 ammo. Alternate spike's if someone runs out.

    You may not run out in lower tiers, but going past tier 32 you will use spikes more frequently!

    Stims - Stock up on all Stims Before & In Between Rounds, u might not need all but they will come in handy if u do run out.

    You may not run out in lower tiers, but going past tier 32 you will use stims more frequently!

    Cyber Rigs - check out all the rigs u Loot, some are better than others.

    Look for rigs with Multiple Slots of the same kind, Cyber rigs with 5-6 Damage Intensifiers/Damage Diffusers/Revival Rejuvenators etc can give you an advantage in & out of Expeditions. The right chip slots on a rig can make the difference & help keep you Alive.

    Tip: Dont sell Rigs/Chips to the vendor, Instead Scrap them for shards in the salvage matrix! Shards will add up, eventually u can Pick & choose the chips you want directly from the Cyber Rig Vendor in Alcatraz.

    Ego Powers - Decoy, Cloak, & Overcharge

    These three Ego Powers are extremely valuable in expeditions!

    Decoy can distract enemies long enough so u can pick them off, distracting entire swarms for a few seconds can come in handy incase u get cornered or outnumbered.

    Cloak can make you invisible to the enemy, Long enough to escape an onslaught of attacks. Aswell as manipulate your shield's recharge time, triggering your shield to fill back up immediately!

    Overcharge can help you deal Slightly more Damage & will Instantly Reload Your Weapon once triggered.

    Perks - Most important are Revive Perks make sure you use Self Medicated & Turn the Tide!

    These two perks alone can make the difference of Survival in Expeditions & Raise your chances of Success.

    the "One for All" perk is a Gamble, it can revive all downed group members... but half the time it doesnt work.

    Also be sure to choose perks that compliment your loadout:
    Guns, Nano Effects, Ego Powers, Critical, Damage

    ================================================== ==========

    Finding food out in the vast open world of Defiance, is easy if u know where to look. Shrill can be Dangerous if not handled correctly, these little buggers can eat thru the toughest of steel & metal. If you search long enough, you'll find some that have Overindulged making them Rich in Protein. Pound for Pound insects like these contain more protien than beef or fish, they're perfect survival food.

    Bleh... taste like Shtako, but it will help u fight the hunger as starvation sets in. Not quite as filling either, i would have to eat a few more of these just to settle my appetite. Another Source for food in the wasteland...

    Hellbugs

    the body is 60% protein and that means energy. A skitterling like this... even with the guts & skin on, u can eat it straight... RAW.

    ^^^But its even better cooked. the Skin of a Hellbug is so tough that the Defiance Natives are known to make armor out of them. I used the remains of this Skitterling to make a helmet myself.

    "Now its Time for the ArkHunter... to become the Hunted"
    =======================================

    As i make my way to Alcatraz...

    Theres a Few things you should know before heading into the Expeditions!

    Teamwork Strategies:

    Find a group you can rely on

    theres nothing worse than a group disbanding
    and being stuck with Randoms who dont know what they are in for.

    Hunter Reqs - Dont use Hunter Reqs to Revive yourself, your group members can use their revive to get you up for free.

    Wait for your group, chances are one of them has a revive and can pick you back up,
    Only Revive Yourself if you are literally about to Extract... Last Case Scenario!

    Revives - With Turn the Tide perk Equipped, Ur group member's Revive will Refresh 45% just for picking u back up.

    Them having 45% refresh is ALOT better than you using 1 Hunter Req & having 0% revive. Teamwork in Reviving Each other is just as important to Survival, So Take Turns Reviving Your Group Members. If u have Revive & arent helping ppl back up because you'd rather save it for yourself, then you shouldnt be in Expedition. You as a Group are SHARING 4 revives, 1 each per Group Member.

    Doors - Open Doors One at a time Together as a Group...

    You never know if its going to be a Loot Room or Unleash a Swarm of Mobs. If it is a Loot room (Golden Skitterling/Crates) you want the entire group there to get the loot as well.

    Poop Shoes on a Skitterling will slow it down so everyone can shoot & kill it Faster. Dont be Greedy, think of the group & kill it together! Drop an ammo spike during or after to replenish everyones ammo pool as well. If it happends to be a Mob Swarm you want the group together to eliminate them, also theirs always 1 mob that drops loot in these rooms.

    Hostages - free them 1 at a time, Freeing a hostage can unleash a Mob Swarm or open a Door to more mobs!
    Pick Swarms off 1 at a time, fighting 1 swarm is easier then fighting 2 or 3 swarms at once! Remember, Survival is Key!

    Cover - Shoot from cover, use the Environment to your advantage. Shoot around Corners & Boxes. this will help you stay alive longer then rushing out ahead in the open.

    DONT RUSH! - Move up as a Group! "We Live or Die Together!" these are not the threat Levels your use to in the open World.

    Poop Shoes - Will Slow down Mobs Rushing towards you, giving you more time to Pick them off.
    A Bio Detenator or Rocket Launcher can give u alot more pools of Bio then just having 5 Bio Nades. Try to find an Autumns Scorge or even an easier to find SLUDGE Rocket Launcher. 1 group member on poop shoe duty spamming bio pools can make a huge difference especially in higher tiers.

    Flashbangs - can stop most Enemies right in there tracks, Small Mobs, Tankers & Bioman Elites, & even the Hivelord Monarch boss. Some bosses are immune though. Flashbangs can give u enough time to get away if in danger, they can Give you Enough Time to Revive someone, and also give u enough time to Pick Off Enemies as the Flashbangs are in effect!

    Ammo Perk, Chips & Spikes - U can Run out of Ammo in expeditions pretty fast, the Scavenger perk can help u loot more ammo if equipped, u can also use ammo spikes if needed. Dont be Stingy with your ammo spikes, Use them! there are ammo crates in the boss battle rooms but only 2 or 3 Ammo Crates on your Journey thru the expedition. Between the 4 of u in group u should have 40 ammo spikes. thats 10 each! You only need 1 Ammo spike for the entire group. that goes for the other spikes aswell. U should be fully stocked in all Spikes!

    Ammo Regen Chips/Rig passive Abilities work best for Rocket Launchers, practically giving you infinite ammo since Rocket Launchers have Small Ammo Pools which can be refilled quickly.

    Mobs - Mobs may seem weak on their own, but in a swarm they can be a force to be reckoned with. Pick them off and keep your distance. Slow them down with poop shoes so they dont rush you!

    Watch out For Elites of Smaller Mobs Like:
    Anarchist's, Pyromaniac's, Scorcher's, Irradiated Conqueror, Electrified Conqueror. Poop Shoes Can slow them down indefinatley & help keep you Alive!

    Elites - the Deadliest Elites Should be taken out 1st! Tankers/Electrocutioners, Bioman Grenadiers/Battlemaster/Incinerator, Raider Plagueblaster, Hellbug Plaguebringer Artillery.

    Keep an Eye out for these and attack as a team to eliminate these threats as soon as possible... 1 or 2 hits from them and it can all be over!

    Mob----><---Elite

    Boss - #1 Rule in ALL Boss Battles is...

    "Kill the Swarms 1st, Then Attack the Boss!"

    Mob Swarms spawn the More HP the Boss Losses, Pick off the Swarms Before Attacking the Boss. Only Attack the Boss when he's the Last Man Standing... If you dont, You will end Up with 3 or 4 Tankers/Grenadiers At the same time! Picking off Swarms as they Spawn will help you Advance to the Next Round! Remember: Expedition is All About Survival, You are All in Expedition to Succeed not Fail! Pick them Off one by One and YOU WILL SUCCEED! So Again...

    "Kill the Swarms 1st, Then Attack the Boss!"

    ================================================== ==========

    Defiance Expeditions has been a humbling Adventure, its pushed me to my limits and shown me that No One is Bigger than Difficulty Tiers! No Matter how Strong you are, if you're not prepared or u make the wrong desicions... You Dont Stand a Chance!

    Beneath the plethora of grammatical errors lies a core of mostly sound advice plus amusing shops. Well done.

    Although you should probably mention the Ironclad is the parent type of the GA so any Ironclad, such as the Chimera Claw, can do well in expos.

    Nice work. Not waiting to open doors and going straight for the boss are the two main reasons why I only do Expos with Clan.

    This is very nice. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

    One thing I wondered and maybe it is just the people I play with, but we sometimes pause between areas to let any used up revive fully refresh before moving to the next area. This goes to your "teamwork" point since randoms don't always go along with this but this works well with a group of friends of clan mates.

    The bug exploding in Bear's mouth reminded me of when I shoot the barrels and stuff downing teammates. Sounds horrible but with the people I run with everyone would do the same. Games are for lols not serious business.

    FWIW- Bear Grylls was found to be a fraud as he received water/food when needed on his "treks" alone in the wilderness.

    This is excellent advice. Just want to add that in Heaven Sent it is imperative (if not always obvious) that the team stick together and work on the mobs and bosses one at a time as a group (especially during boss round). The vertical / horizontal layout of the ship/map is conducive to splitting up the team so try and stay together. This expedition can turn very deadly if the team gets split up. The other thing I see going in Heaven Sent is that players seem to miss the loot rooms.
