Help with mods please

I've read many things about making mods on weapons etc but am still confused. I choose the salvage matrix, choose the non-equipped sniper rifle which has all 4 slots with icons in them. I have a mod which says it is for sniper rifles. I'm not sure how to select both or what to do next. I tried turning on the gold star to the right of their names but I still don't see anything like a button saying maybe, "Combine" or "Modify".


When I have the weapon and the mod showing on the list in the matrix, what do I do next?

Select the weapon. Select attach mods. Select the slot. Select the mod. Press start action.

In the salvage matrix --
Select the weapon -- then select attach mods -- the select the mod slot ( stock, barrel, etc) -- then select the mod for that slot -- then on the lower right should be start mod or something to confirm attaching the mod.
It's best to make sure the synergy of the weapon and mod match to get the best benefits (bonuses).

Also be sure you're a high enough EGO to actually perform the modification. With the number of weapons being traded and given away recently, it's entirely possible you have a weapon that exceeds your ability to mod it.

If you are at a level where you can mod it, either do so via the Salvage Matrix as Stigs pointed out, or right click the weapon and select 'attach mods'. This basically does the same thing Stigs mentioned, it's just a shortcut to the Salvage Matrix.

Derp! I didn't think of that, I don't use a controller.
