How to identify a good sniper

This is an awful thing to ask considering i have a large game collection and usually pick up on these things quite quickly but i cant tell how much damage a sniper does , what is considered good? what does Bloom means?
I'm a survivalist . If people could give me a quick crash course i would really appreciate it as sadly i have played a few hours and am none the wiser
I mean i have a 166 ego rating and have no idea what that even means urghhh i should have paid more attention
p.s currently using a VBI ss-2 ranger with double shots and a purple symbol?
    DMG 684
    fire rate 5.4
    mage 16
    reload 3
    crit mult 2.5x
    bloom 1.70

I'm gonna take a guess and say DMG and Crit Mult are the two most important factors for a sniper rifle.

And I think, I'm not certain, that bloom is how much the little cross-hair thingy expands when being fired. Not that big of an issue for a bolt-action sniper rifle.. I don't know about a semi-automatic, though.

Ego is your "Player Level" and I think Bloom only effects a Sniper if you hip fire?(Not entirely sure)
Purple symbol is an element type(Forget which but I think it increases damage of a sort)

Those stats look pretty decent for a Ego 166.

You make look to invest in a "Bolt action" sniper with "bio' or "fire" effect. Your damage will usually be doubled with the bolt action. also pay attention to "crit mult" and "bloom". Bloom is the maximum angle in which the projectile can leave the "Barrel" also add mod slots and mods to increase weapon stats and make you a better killer. Also the EGO skill you are using along side EGO perks will make a huge difference.

Also I might add that the producer of the gun is very important to your EGO and play style.

I love using sniper rifle to kill the badass Dark Mattern, then start using assault rifle to finish the job xD

Bloom is the time you need to have a perfect aim after a shoot. Bigger is bloom = more time to aim next head.

Now your rifle is pretty good, purple symbol mean life drain damage (can be melee or range damage)
Double shot is good, but not alwais the second bullet reach the enemy.
I love bolt action rifle whit a single powerfull bullet.
I used several sniper rifle, bolt action, DMG 1200, magazine 7, reload 3.
Is pretty the same as yours, but whit a single bullet you are sure to kill most of the human enemy(also Dark mattern ones).

The damage for sniper are from 800/1300 i think, whit a good aim U can kill most of your enemy.
The bad is the poor magazine number, so try assault or uzi-like weapon for 2nd equip. Are usefull whitin Decoy.
Bolt action deal more damage, semi automatic are more fast, but really useless... who deserve a snipe if can't kill in few shot?
So try looking for a bolt action rifle and mod that give more critical dmg and more ammos.

Hope i've help a litle xD

for sniper rifles.. always get manual bolt action.. the double shot or semi auto are weak on the dmg. if a full bolt is too slow for you.. find a VOT Bolter.. they are both manual, with a really fast reload time. Mine is orange with 1440 base dmg+nano+weapon set bonuses and set bonus mods.. end up critting around 20-25k dmg per hit... good sized mag as well..

for modding.. sell any whites you have, dont bother buying whites.. hang on to greens or better and keep an eye out for them. do what you can to increase crit multiplier and accuracy if needed.. hopefully you find one that has + to accuracy on it as weapons have a tendency to randomly have an additional stat effect, like more or less accuracy/crit/reload etc.

salvage everything that isnt an upgrade.. and pick up all loot.. it can get really expensive modding weapons..

imo.. VOT bolters are pretty solid way to go, very high dmg.. only slightly below a full bolt action, while having less recoil and faster manual actions.

The two things that I look for in a sniper rifle are the Damage output and its Crit Multiplier. The type of sniper rifle that you use depends on you play style. I like to take a more stealthy approach and pick my targets off from a large distance so I use the Bolt Action snipers. Why? Because I'm going to attempt to make that first shot count. I should not need that followup shot because, ideally, my target is laying in a pool of his own blood. That being said:

    Bolt Action Sniper
Theses sniper rifles have a high damage output, but as a result have a slower rate of fire and typically small magazine sizes as well, usually 7 for human snipers and 5 for Votan (VOT). Human BA snipers generally have a higher damage output than Votan snipers as well, but the Votan snipers can make a quicker followup shot, should one be needed. Examples of Bolt action Rifles are the Survivalist's Rifle and VOT Meteor Bolter.

    Semi-Auto Sniper
These snipers typically do less damage per shot than the Bolt Action snipers, but allow for much quicker follow up shots and chain kills. They allow the player to take out multiple unshielded enemies in a short period of time, usually needed after being spotted by raiders and some quick kills are needed. Their clip sizes also tend to be larger, usually around 10 shots. Some Semi-Auto snipers also "dual fire" meaning that they will fire two shots in quick succession. Skilled snipers can land both shots for a quick kill. Examples of Semi-Auto Snipers are Repeaters and the Votan Bolters.

All in all it really comes down to preference. I've used both snipers but prefer the bolt action with an smg sidearm for quickly dispatching enemies from all ranges. Combined with cloak it makes a deadly combination. Combining Semi-Autos with Overcharge is also a deadly combination.

Hope this helped. Have fun finding your snipers!

Is that because the rifle has leveled up with you?
