Experiencing my first 'mmo' with Defiance

So this is really my first entrance into the MMO gaming world even though I've been playing video games since I was playing Pitfall on the Atari 2600. While I've slacked off on playing daily for the past few years, my interest was piqued with the merging of the video game world and the tv world with Defiance. The concept is incredible and I TRULY hope that Defiance, SyFy, and Trion succeed in this adventure! It COULD be a watershed moment for gaming as we know it in the PC/Console era (screw mobile's attempt to hijack 'real' gamers dangit!).

As for the MMO experience, I'm beyond overwhelmed with all that's involved and am loving every fracking moment of it! My inability to shoot right, drive right, and mod a flipping weapon is hilarious for anyone that might be watching (thankfully the wife doesn't care about it all), but it's just a challenge for me to get better. Is this the greatest MMO to come out in a long time? My view is jaded because it's my 1st, although I'm SURE there are better...but were they this good at launch? From looking at various threads, yes and no.

What I've gotten so far is though though: Trion is doing a pretty decent job and I'm here to stay for a while. Yes, there could be a LOT to improve upon but maybe it's my overly optimistic viewpoint, but I bet they're going to work their butts off to get things going smoothly.

I played MUDs back in college (text based over Telnet...before the HTML sites were ever a reality), and there would be hours and days that would go by where the site had crashed. Guess what? I'm still alive, the world's still spinning and my patience just got better. I've had to wait while programmers got something right, and they did. I got highly pissed off at my character being deleted or progress being erased, but it just made me better. The world won't end when things aren't going our way y'all

Anyways, I just wanted to share that this MMO noob, who's oblivious to 'what the norm is' is loving the game, even with some of its quirks.

Glad you're enjoying it! As far as best goes, everyone will have a subjective opinion, but I like the approach away from the usual mmorpgs I normally play. This is like a breath of fresh air. I understand a lot of it can be challenging at first, but as you continue to play things will become easier, and I'm sure if you need help there'll be plenty of people to help, especially if you ask on the forums here first. If you are enjoying Defiance DC Universe is also pretty fun and is on the PS3 as well it's free to play. I'd say there's things that are a little more complicated in that game, but if you're a fan of DC comics it's worth a look.

I have played mmo's before but this is a new bread :-P it's a cross between a FPS ,rpg and mmo it's also the first I know of on consoles! And has a sci-fi show tie in too!

I hope it's the start of something amazing and I too am enjoying it

This is also my first experience with a mmo type of game. Not my shooter though. I am liking the game so far.

Yeah I've already put more time into this game (consistently playing hours on end) then I have with other games. I'm loving the other interactions, getting rescued by other players, and getting farther in the game for arkfalls other than the ones around Mount Tam. Had some killer drops last night...makes me want to get back on soon!

Anyways, just wanted to get some GOOD vibes going out there where others seem all tight and frustrated

Everquest Online Adventures was the first console rpg that I know of, it was for the ps2 and was out in 2001 or 2002.
