get **** more ****loads purple from T4 lockboxes and get ****load orange from T3

Never upgrade a white to hold more mod slots. I really wouldn't even add it to green weapons. Save the good mods for your good weapons. More than half my inventory are mods of various types and I really only have 1 weapon of each class since I am looking for more as I max out that weapon and then I sell it once I find something better.
white ~ blue really has not much of a difference
Purple and Orange is where most extra stats/effects come into play
Since there is no base dmg difference between the weapons you'r just as good off using any color
Only 2 things are a real upgrade
The weapon element/effect
And the bonus effects that can come on purple/orange (a lot of the time these come with useless effects so you gotta get really lucky to get ones that are worth it)
Pretty much on par with rarity colors in other games
