Yeah Im not sure the prices are competitive either. But overall their business model is clearly a misdirection around the subscription system to attain the same or better profits that would've been involved in a subscription model. However the manner and the model they are using with the store, in direct correlation to the game play and content and the short comings that are being expressed across the board with the game, harm the overall impression of the game.

The cash shop is really bad... it's like they had no idea how to itemize it and just threw darts at a board. I pity the people who buy lockboxes.

It is the same price as a monthly fee in a subscription based model (absurd!). A model which would generally give you these skins, color, and emotes included with the game for free.

And charging for emotes is just plain silly. A free MMO feature since the dawn of auto-flushing indoor plumbing, is now a micro-transaction? I can picture how well that would go over on a large MMORPG forum. I assure you - developer babies would probably be eaten. Yes, you can completely avoid the store entirely. But emotes should be put BACK into the game where they belong. Seeing a price tag put on them was quite a shock to me. I can't wait to pay another $20 for a chat system that actually works.
Again going by the current F2P market these prices are half and in some cases 1/10 of what you would pay for items like this else where. And no all F2p games do not give emote for free not in years. You really need to get out and look at free to play games because if this shocks you ya might just have a heart attack seeing the prices in them more so more of the more current one. 20$ for items with a 60day life span .

I'm not sure how many more times I'm willing to say this but..

This is Buy-to-Play NOT Free-to-Play. We spend $60 for the game before we can play it. There is a major difference between the two models. Did you know Buy-to-Play MMO's rarely have cash shops? Did you know Free-to-Play cash shops usually have extremely high priced "pay to win" items?. Again, this is a Buy-to-Play model. However, they decided to add an extremely high priced cash shop to a game that already costs $60, and they sell us skins, colors, and emotes that should have been part of our $60 in the first place. Compare our cash shop prices with other $60 Buy-to-Play cash shops NOT with the Free-to-Play Pay-to-Win Korean games that cost you nothing to subscribe.

And no, all F2p games do not give emotes for free, not in years.
    Actually what I said was:

"But surely $12 for a clothing skin is pushing the limits of gaming integrity. It is the same price as a monthly fee in a subscription based model (absurd!). A model which would generally give you these skins, colors, and emotes included with the game for free."
In other words: You are charged $12 for a T-shirt in this game but for $12 in a subscription based game you have access to ALL skins, ALL colors, and ALL emotes. They include them all with the game. They don't remove them all just before launch and charge you $5-12 for each one.

Again going by the current F2P market these prices are half and in some cases 1/10 of what you would pay for items like this else where... If this shocks you ya might just have a heart attack... [they charge] $20 for items with a 60 day life span...
I don't know if you were aware but this game charges you:

$30 for the weakest boosters with a 60 day life span
$120 for the strongest boosters with a 60 day life span

You're right, I think I just had a heart attack. Paying 6x more for OUR boosters is clearly "competitive pricing" gone horribly horribly wrong.

Honestly, I think the prices are absurd as well. I'll probably never buy anything from the store because why do that when I could get items nearly the same in game, or use the money I could have spent on ridiculously priced costumes for lunch over the course of a week.

I'll never understand the business model behind overcharging customers. You can't sucker everybody and you lose potential business in the form of people raising their eyebrows at your price tags.

I realize that the store is completely optional, and I'm really glad that it is. However, I really question whether these prices will stay the same over the course of the game's lifespan.

What do you expect OP? Trion wanna make at last 200$ on each player.

    60$ the game
    30-40$ DLCs
    Microtransactions
Seasons, you will be forced to pay to play other story episodes

Overpriced, overhyped, bugged and hard-endgame title...

This x1000. People keep bringing up F2p but last time I checked this game retails at $60. Had they not been so concerned with bleeding people out of money, maybe they could have included acceptable instances and an overall adaquate amount of content. It will come back and bite them in the behind when this game is dead by mid May...

Might not have to wait that long. I tried doing several major arkfalls today, and was the only person at the smaller falls killing the crystals.

I see people at the various transit points standing around the vendors spamming grenades and rockets, but no one doing arkfalls. That doesn't bode well being less than a week into the game. I'm really hoping it was just the time of day, and because it's Friday.

As far as the prices 'being competitive' I'm going to call BS on that. Competitive if you want to be part of the Greed Collective with EA perhaps, but honestly I think everyone expected better from Trion.

I'll give Trion props for the cute bait & switch tactics with the Beta 3 pricing and availability though. Truly worthy of an EA title, if this were an EA title.

Agreed. I was ready to buy $20 worth of bits and buy myself a few things after I saw the beta prices. I put money on my PS3 account for that very purpose. Now I'll save that money for DLC or possibly the Season Pass, because $20 won't buy you much in the Defiance store. They'll still get my money, but at least I'll feel like I'm getting my money's worth, depending on the DLC of course. They'd make more money by charging less for those items because more people would buy them.
