Indeed it felt like a series finale to me. Who knows maybe Nolan will come across a Taelon mothership and meet Liam and Renee...lol

Another thought just occurred to me, the way they set up this season finale its got that heavy vibe there could be a good amount of timeskip about to occur between the end of this season and the possible 4th season.
Nolan popping back up 3 to 6 months later is the relative usual time skip they tend to do between each season in defiance but im thinking more along the line of a good couple of years time skip.
Just think of the possibilities
The Town is more of a city than a town now
Irisa and Alac as an actual cemented couple
The Baby being a kid/teen now
Irisa and Alac having a hybrid child of their own
Veterinarian and clone Doc are the chief doctors in town now
a Sensloth as mayor
Datak and Sthama are well Datak and Sthama so they'll still be stirring trouble
Amanda is now a recluse living in a van down by the river
Im speechless, Still hoping for season 4.
Seeming what they pulled off this time i wonder if season 4 is even possible and even IF what will happen to Nolan o.O
I really liked the episode. At first I was shocked at the ending, but the more I think about it, the more it can be a refreshing change for the series. There's nothing to indicate Doc and Nolan are "Lost in Space" - they have full command of the ship and can go anywhere, including back to Earth, but he won't until he finds a new home for the Omec.
The story has always focused on Nolan as the main character. If they continue to do this, it may have just changed to a starship-based sci-fi series, at least temporarily. I would love to see that. Or, they can flip back and forth between Earth and the ship, but I don't really see that happening. Otherwise, they fast forward Nolan's adventure so he and Doc can get back to Earth, which IMO is rather unsatisfying, considering the stories that could be told with them in space.
As to Amanda, I'm surprised they focused on her ripping her stitches open to save the Tars, which was explicitly mentioned as a death sentence, and yet she survived. They were implying there wouldn't be time for her ripped stitches to be fixed before she bled to death. Her sacrifice would have made Stama realize the error in her ways and live up to Amanda's standard for the future, again cementing her relationship with Alac.
Therefore, I believe Amanda's survival indicates that they intend for Nolan to come back to Earth to be with her once again. When that will happen in season 4 or beyond is the question.
the way i saw the finale was it could be the series finale but they also left alot of unanswered questions. alak/ irisa , stahma/ amanda, nolan/ amanda ? how the hell can you take 3 seasons for them to happen and then end it lol, how the hell is datak tarr going to go about his day without a bit of indogene sas from doc lol, nolan and doc spending too much time together what kind of crazy banter would that be over 6 months a year a few years ? where did they end up they seemed to have a hyper drive when they launched the engines. Series or season finale the episode was very well done i had a few tear jerking moments thru the episode. Also anyone got a johnny cash song lol were going down to jackson.
Well a few things indicated to me at the very beginning that it may be the end, which I am sad to say.
1. Chrysler was bought by Fiat and then the Dodge sponsorship was yanked. Sponsorship help ALOT with funding airtime. On a side note, NO in game or out of game contests centered around dodge, incase no one noticed.
2. A prime time Air Time of 8pm on Fridays with No major dedicated sponsorship continued.
Defiance only got a 1 hour season finale (possibly series now). SyFy Dark Matter Producers (Old Stargate Producers) flex their muscle for 2 hours series finale after 1 year....... I really feel cheated.
On a side note, my wife is not a big SyFi fan of any kind but yet she actually enjoyed Defiance....
I haven’t bothered posting my “View From The Cheap Seats” reviews for the last two weeks for a couple of reasons:
1) I’m a lazy piece of shtako.
2) More to the point, I didn’t really feel inspired.
I’m suspending my laziness for this one last ride. I dunno that I feel any particular sense of organization this time, so I’ll just fragger-blast my views out there.
Well, certainly not this season. As a matter of fact, nobody’s even seen the LawKeeper Charger this season. Last year, we had that gawdawful mess of a Java-based game which---at the end of it---somebody was supposed to get lucky enough to win a new Dodge Challenger. I actually tried to play it for a couple of weeks and gave up; it was even glitchier than the MMORPG. Never heard any celebratory squeals of joy on the forums from a winner….don’t think there was one. At any rate, I agree with the fundamental thinking behind the above statement---lack of sponsorship = obvious trouble.Chrysler was bought by Fiat and then the Dodge sponsorship was yanked. Sponsorship help ALOT with funding airtime. On a side note, NO in game or out of game contests centered around dodge, incase no one noticed.
Yup, noticed that too. Concur with this as well. I’ll add on top of all this: Anybody pay any real attention to the deserted streets of Defiance? Don’t feel bad if you didn’t; I didn’t think about this until last night myself. That was the same song that Nolan and Irisa sang in the roller in the pilot episode. Not a good omen for a fourth season.
There’s nobody there. That’s right---empty streets. First two seasons, you couldn’t move in Defiance without bumping into somebody. This year? The only thing moving in those streets is tumbleweeds. Why is this, you wonder? Simple---they couldn’t afford to pay that many extras. Shoot, they even double-booked Trenna Keating for one episode. Now that was easy to do, because we don’t see the real Trenna in every ep---she’s covered up in a mountain of makeup. But still…..
Now the excuse given in the show was in line with show canon---the town was in trouble and struggling badly, with multiple vicious threats bearing down on them. But here in the real world, the real reason was---SyFy whacked the budget to the point of near non-existence, so they couldn’t afford 200 extras for every show. They were lucky to get maybe 20-30 extras, and I’ll bet a sizeable amount that they were run through every scene (that required them) at least 2-3 times, in differing costumes and makeup. Parallel to this, of course, is the severe and painful culling of the cast in the season opener; there’s two salaries that won’t need to get paid anymore. We didn’t see Jesse Rath for 1-2 episodes---he didn’t get paid for those, I’m sure.
Even the opening credits scenes differed pretty dramatically. I actually kinda liked the openers in the first season---felt like it set the mood, and I’m a fan of Bear McCreary’s work. Last year they just went “Meh, here’s the opener. Enjoy.” That continued into this year, and for the last episode they didn’t even do that much.
Some basic analysis suggests that there may yet be a Season 4. SyFy’s last two big franchises---Battlestar Galactica and Warehouse 13---both made it to four seasons. (Actually W13 made it to 4 and ½.) But that simple statement ignores the realities of both shows. Galactica became a victim of the writers’ strike at the end; the fourth season had a pretty bad break in the middle if I remember right. Not only that, but the canon was becoming so freighted that it was hard to come up with stories. W13 got arbitrarily cut off; I personally felt like there was more gas in the tank, but SyFy just didn’t want to keep going. Defiance, for all of its great qualities, simply burnt out its writers too fast, and the stumbles of the first few seasons didn’t help. I guess you have to win 100% of the time at SyFy, or…they’ll just decide that the formula’s not working, slash your budget, bounce you around timeslots, and then trash your show when they decide that “it’s just not working”.
This show will be remembered as "Firefly 2.0".
Yewll gets all the really good snarky lines….”Oh, just stick it in me, sailor.” Huehuehue….is it wrong that I think Trenna Keating is unbearably hot and I have a stupid teenage-fanboy crush on her? Probably is. Don’t care, still crushing.
If this wasn’t the series finale, then the show-runners have got me absolutely faked outta my socks. Sure felt like it, especially in those last waning minutes. Seems like they wrapped everything up as best they could:
---Defiance is safe, and Kindzi’s dead. If there are any Omec left on Earth, they’re too few in number and too weak to be of any consequence to anybody.
---Irisa got her wish; Nolan didn’t wipe out the Omec, although he easily could have.
---Nolan will never see the inside of a VC prison, or be executed either. The VC don’t have the ability to reach out across the vast emptiness of space and find him.
---Doc Yewll gets a measure of atonement for her past sins---ALL of them---in the form of hacking the Omec Harvester and taking it away from Earth.
---Irisa lives on, as the LawKeeper. Anybody else see a little tip of the battered top hat in her costume at the end? Namely in the form of that furry stole she was wearing? Sukar, we do miss you so….
---The Tarrs are more or less reunited. Alak can at least tolerate his parents’ presence without wanting to strangle them both. Random rumination: Anybody get an “awww” moment when Irisa was playing with Baby Luke and talking quietly with Alak?
I did. Meh….maybe it’s just me.
---Even the Arch got a bit of closure. Not bad Defiance…not bad at all.
So….I guess it’s time to close this out.
I sat there and stared at my TV for a while last night after the credits rolled….I had that same empty growly feeling in my gut that I had the day I had to take one of my cats to the vet this past spring. The cat did not come home with me….I still miss the little guy.
I will miss Defiance too.
A little over two years ago now, I willingly jumped aboard this train and was happy---as I’m sure many of you were too---to take this ride with these characters across the entertainment mediums. I watched the show, I’ve played the game. Helluva big effort, for a network to take on AND actually make it work. I’ve liked the game, LOVED the show, and have, like a lot of other folks, anxiously waited to see the crossover content….and then been somewhat disappointed, just like most of the rest of you.
I don’t know if ANY of the cast will ever see this post. I don’t even know if any of the cast even reads these forums; it seems to be the accepted practice these days for actors to deliberately shy away from internet posts, mainly because trolls.
But I still want to put out there---in the vain and barely-flickering hope that maybe one of them WILL see it---that from all of us here on the forums, in the game, and watching from home, to all of the cast: Grant, Julie, Mia, Trenna, Dewshane, Tony, Jaime, Jesse, Nichole (both Munoz AND Galicia), Justin, Graham, Jessica the Liberata, Conrad, Rob Archer the Bioman, Rob Shand the Sensoth, Anna (place in list is not indicative of what we think of you!), Gale, Jim, William, Noah, and Kanietiio….
...everyone says “Hi.” We love you.
