Give Trion a break! They aren't using hand me down video engines like the Call of Duty games or Halo Unreal video-engines. Those games are half-baked ideas and run on the same format. Trion built their servers and video-engines all from scratch. Cut them some slack, y'all. They are a mom 'n pop operation. They are good -- not like super-giants "Activision" who poo out 1000s of crappy games.

new Trion built game engine? Doubtful. I know the Physics engine that Defiance uses is the Havok engine. It has been used by plenty of games including Call of Duty: Black Ops II, Crackdown, Dark Souls, Deus Ex: Invisible War, Brutal Legend, Assassin's Creed II, and plenty of others.
