Joining phases

I can't seem to ever get into the same phase as another person in my group when they are doing a story mission. I understood that I could play missions over and over, so why can I do that with everyone except the people I want to play with.

As of now,

1. Select to join their phase after you are notified (pressing the right direction on the d-pad to select). It will appear to do nothing...

2. Right after that select "Go to friend" (pressing the right direction on the d-pad to select) and it will load you into their phase story.

I have no idea why it works this way. You would think the phase selection would do it alone. Maybe it's a bug. I believe you have to do it this way, and in this 2 step order right now. I hope it helped you and others.
