Its funny you say that, some guy earlier this week posted a review that was good for Defiance...2 pages of Fanboys slathering their keyboards wil the praise and undying love, and you have the audacity to bash someone/a company that finds the game extrememly shallow and pedantic just shows the level of gaming towards console players.

I really dont get it, the game had absolutely nothing to do after questing..no armor/weapon grind, no crafting, no ah, no reason to do anything other than upgrade your ego for the very small buff. The biggst fail is different races but same ego skill tree..It was lazy, and pathetic and you fanboys supported it without fail!

Actually there's plenty of that. There's grinding for the weapon of your dreams, grinding for the mods to put on it, and the resources to mod it. There's the grind for the right shield for you, for your gear to have matching stats that aid you specific builds, there's work to be made toward unlocking outfits and other rewards. Then there's pvp... co-op, just having stupid fun with others, shadow wars... testing out your builds against the various story elements.. And god knows what else they add in as time goes on ( as the game is still a work in progress content wise, as it will always be ).

I watched about half a video review at IGN before I realized all those guys were looking for was some type of clone of another MMO. As a result of what I thought was extreme bias, I probably won't go back to their site. Ever.

Reviews like that will hurt this game.

I read the 4 day First Impressions Diary @ Massively (you can read it here; the link is to day 4 recap, the rest of the days are at the bottom of the page).

I thought this was a pretty fair assessment of the game, and gave me information I actually WANTED as a potential buyer.

I also spent a lot of time reading the forum and sifting through the complaints vs. Dev Tracker responses. The last thing that factored into my purchase (downloading now, btw ) was Trion.

I played Rift from Beta 4, and Trion's customer service and dedication to their playerbase is unrivaled in the gaming industry. I've seen other companies utterly fail at Customer Service (ArenaNet should be taking notes) and completely botch launches before. This? I have complete confidence that Trion will get this sorted out, because I've seen them sort through hitches and glitches before.

There are decent reviews out there. Sadly, the ones that will probably get watched/read the most are the ones that say the game is crap- which is completely inaccurate. It's a work in progress, like most games in their first week of launch.

The way the guy wrote that PCG article I'm surprised he didn't give it a 0 or something. Yikes. The Capsule Computers review I felt more accurately depicted the game, but I felt like it was short overall.

I'd love to see a good in depth review, one that isn't written by someone that clearly doesn't hate the game, but isn't going to white knight the review either. So much for standards of journalism.

To punish us with good hardware to please poor players is bad. Make the game look good
on low standard machines, but give us with strong hardware, the option for AMAZING graphics.
The graphics are not stellar, but then why do they have to be? This is a game designed to be played by a massive amount of people. High graphics pigeonholes your game into a smaller player base and thus reduces the potential consumer market available to you. For a standard shooter once you've bought the game the company has made it's money and typically moves the majority of it's resources into making a new game. Defiance is an MMO which means that the majority of the designers are busy working on new content to allow the game to progress. Uber high graphics come with uber high development costs, which in a game that is working on making more and more content all the time, wastes precious resources that could be spent elsewhere.

I have a nice gaming rig too, but most people don't. To have the best of the best costs a lot more money than going to your local big box store and buying a pre-made system off the shelves. Just because we have nice systems doesn't mean that everyone should be penalized because they do not.

If you are playing this game for loot you're doing it wrong.

entire world, not the player in question that actually helped you.
How the Devs could release Defiance with the social & chat system the way it is,
    is beyond me.
While the chat system in Defiance isn't ideal there could be any number of reasons why Trion chose to go with it. My best guess would be cost. When trying to build a game for market you have limited resources additionally you never know how well your game will succeed. So companies try to keep their costs down. This is totally understandable given the circumstances. Defiance was built on three different platforms and having the game built with three different interfaces would be very costly versus having one interface. Now that Trion has seen how successful their launch has been they hopefully have the resources to go back to the drawing board on this one. Remember thought that changing out the UI for the PC market may require a separate development & testing process. Cost could be a limiting factor on this one.

One example is a factionquest which has you killing 15 rocket-enemies located on farms,
the problem is, there is ZERO indication on the map where the farms are,
and currently there is only ONE farm with those NPCs on, and they only spawn during an event..
which has you having to run the event a few times every day just to complete the faction quest.

The map needs an overhaul, and places like "ken's Farm" needs to start showing on
"mouse over" on map once you have actually have discovered it.
I'm positive that Trion will begin to work on issues like this once we get out of the launch phase.

unless you want to open up the menu, change your entire loadout,
and THEN activate your 2nd skill.
The game should allow for a player to use several skills without having to dig
into menus, if he/she choses to invest into 2 or more skills.
Only picking one skill is part of the design of the game. Having people be able to use two different skills at the same time would give an unfair advantage to people who haven't been able to unlock two skills. Besides, if you'd allow two skills then why not all four? One skill keeps the playing field realistic and makes you choose which ability you want to carry at that particular moment. Each skill has it's advantages and disadvantages, that's what makes the game interesting.

I don't. I played Rift for over a year and i watched as Trion let a Developer for the Warrior-class,
totally ruin warriors and sometimes leaving them with broken skills over long weekends.
It took a huge outcry from the Warrior-community to get a new developer after they had
their fill of their class being leaps behind every other class in every thing they did.

I am willing to give Trion the benefit of a doubt, but i won't hold up hopes up.

Yeah, cause Rogues totally weren't broken as **** the first 8+ months of the game, right? Every class had their problems, except maybe clerics, which could fill damn near any role.

That first reviewer guy has really pissed me off now =/

Edit: Oh and has any of these remstick haters thought maybe the stuff thier whinging about is actually in the pipeline? christ.
