Melee Weapons?

I have seen on a YouTube video what looks to be a melee weapon with an electronic shield attached to the front. The player was running around hitting enemies with it but also had an ability where he could get a running start then leap in the air and land with the weapon, doing some AoE damage. I won't post the link here for obvious reasons but it was from the beta.

I'd love to see some kind of Katana or energy katana or any Japanese sword. A katana would go so well with the "Pale Wars Ronin"

I think it's the speed boost that makes your melee attacks do full damage to shields, instead of 50%.

I don't need melee weapons or my play style. Actually, I would object to melee weapons, 'cause I allways thought it ridiculous to bring a knife to a gun fight and to expect to live to tell the tale. Not that a melee weapon not have its uses, sure, but i you spread them bullets all over the place - why would you like to run straight into that bulletspewing hell and knife him?
Anyhow, to each his own.

The proper term for someone charging with a melee weapon is fodder or target practice.
