I enjoyed the first two episodes. You should try to PVP and talk about your thoughts on that part of the game. Also, some weekly tips would be helpful.
I do think it's funny you can tell doing the Lair podcast your interest in the Secret World in twindling, so here you are playing Defiance...I feel the same.

Update on my PVP experience:
I suck really really really really really really really bad. 1 Kill 8 deaths. Granted it was a Shadow War and it was SUPER intense. Was amazing fun though.

Downloaded 'Downcast' as suggested, which did not fix the problem.
That is odd, Downcast seem to fix the problem for anybody. I can't imagine why it would be doing that. Have you tried downloading directly from the site?
