Can't get past intro

Just got the game, created a character, and every time I login and try to get past the intro video of the ship going down, I get kicked from the server (whether I skip the video or not). Been through all the routing, DMZ, am hardwired to router, etc...

Are the servers really just that bad or am I missing something?

This actually seems to be happening when creating new characters, possibly during a patch or something. I just created a new character and ran into the same issue.
