Or you can run up and use a melee attack on him, same effect.

Now this is good to know. Yesterday i settled for jumping over his head and shooting him before he completely turned around. Rinse and repeat.

Or a grenade of any form or explosive of any form. Also, setting on fire and electrocute also do the same

fire nades and flashcharge nades both make them easy as cake. Flashcharge make any enemy pretty much a cinch.

.....I usually just shoot his shield till he gets tired and moves it for me if I have no grenade available at the time

i use stun nades or slap them with my gun XD using a rocket is over kill <.<

I kill em with the sniper rifle. Back up as they're walking. When they stop, you can drill one through the top of their skull, over the lip of the shield. You can also stagger them by shooting them in their left shoulder, which sticks out when they're aiming the shotgun in your direction, then pop them while the shield is out of the way.
