*Do NOT Shoot those small bugs "skitterling" during Arkfalls*

EGO, as mentioned, says this multiple times during the Arkfall. However, you still have people carelessly abusing explosives (killing the small Hellbugs before they're able to expose the crystal) or clowns at the Arkfall like the one I was at last night, driving around in Quads/Buggies running them down. For the most part though, people were firing at the crystal while waiting for the small ones to open a weak point.

The small ones aren't really a threat as much as they are an annoyance if they're actively focusing on the player during the event. Focus on the Warriors/Archers.

I get so freaking sick of people driving in runners and killing the skitterlings, and as far as explosives go, I'm more annoyed by them causing frame chop xD

Also a consideration (And I love this thoughtful complication) the bugs aren't just biting the crystal for the hell of it, they take out a chunk which allows them to form a cocoon and rapidly evolve. IE if you let a small hellbug survive after it bites a crystal, it will run off and turn into a warrior or archer, so you need to allow them to bite the crystal, but finish them ASAP after they do.

I'm usually up close with an AR or Shotgun so once the crystal has an open spot, the Hellbug usually gets wasted in the process before getting the chance to evolve. That hasn't really been a problem in the Arkfalls I've been in but I've only done a handful (I usually participate if there are 10-15 people, not too fond of the larger ones but I usually end up in those when taking on the massive bosses at the end of major ones so I just stick around anyways).

this only applies to ones where you have to destroy the arkfall not the one with waves.

Red Arkfall Hellbugs: Avoid as best as you can/reasonably killing the skitterlings.

Blue Arkfall Hellbugs: Kill them. Kill them all. Faster you kill the more waves(bonus waves exist on it) for more loot/exp.

I farmed my 2500 Major Ark Fall kills on the Skitterlings at the hell bug events :P

Yup as the above posts mentions. you need 2500 kills in arkfall and the sitterlings are one of the easiest ones to get it on. even if u shouldnt kill em you will for the achiev. :-)

Actually, I've seen some of those guys bite several times before they decide to evolve. My suggestion is that you wait until you see them cocoon before laying into them.

Plus, the cocoons have extremely little health so they are easy to take down.
