I am not expecting much from the DLC. This is not Rift as anyone who played that game sure knows. The experience of Trion from Rift does not seem to translate to Defiance. Also I would be very surprise if the tie in with the series would be more than a small 3-4 stage mission per sequel. Just look at the episode quest we have now and take that as a guideline.
Rome wasn't built in a day, sir. World of Warc)raft (hate using this as an example, but its been a staple in my life for quiet some time) was not nearly as big of a universe in 2004 as it is now in 2013. Rift can take the same que I would imagine. It takes time to build a story and build even more story upon that framework. You are taking an MMO that has been in launch for under a week and comparing it up to something of the likes of Rift that has had 2 years to spread its roots and influences. As for your mention of character development (if you are meaning characters and not OUR characters) is simply a matter of perspective. Granted I did find some characters easy to forget, but namely figures like Cooper, Torc, Varus, Nim (of what background we have) I can already remember off the top of my head very quickly.

I can see tons of new maps being opened up. We currently have San Francisco. That's it. You don't think there's plans to open that up? If Nolan can travel to St. Louis, I'm sure we can travel to other crazy places too.

Watch the first 14 minutes of the show, there's some monsters in there that I haven't seen in the game yet.

Sheesh. Games been live and playable for 4 days.

umm i'm pretty sure those monsters in the show were supposed to be hellbugs

i do think the content is lacking as well, it feels more like a multiplayer tps than an mmo

Just because its not available to you now does not mean that it will never exist. Look at the map. There are many areas that we do not yet have access to. As the show progresses these new areas will be unlocked for us, as well as other materials via DLC.

Yes, there is a sort of character building. That is why we have these different weapon types skills. Somone with a 5 in rocket launchers will obviously be more effective than someone who has never used one because they will not have the bonuses that the other has. I just recently picked up an assault rifle and shotgun with my sniper character. I'm not going to be as effective as someone who has used these since start. That is character building, to a lesser extent.

    Y'all whine too much.

ark missions are boring, its the same old thing.. over and over again, and they pop up pretty much constantly so the "excitment" soon goes out of it..

Map is tiny.. with greyed out area's meaning, " we put more in the game but.. were going to make you wait and most likley pay to get there "

5000 skill cap from launch, yet there is no where near enough content for you to get that high unless you have litrally no life and like to do the same pointless non rewarding repetative tasks over and over again.

pvp is sub parr, if I wana pvp I'd play a better game tbh thats more skill based and not luck spam based.

there is no sense to progression, ego points barley do anything, new gear is pretty much the same as your old gear, I'm ego 900 atm and still using some weapons I got at start of the game because nothing else I see seems better.

This new content needs to be out now.. and by new content, I dont want like 1 mission tied to the tv show..

agree or disagree, I do not care. I enjoy this game, but its getting pretty old pretty fast for a "skill based mmo"
Maybe you should take the time to enjoy the game at a much more leisurely pace than burning through all the content in one week. Maybe you should put down the RedBull and get some sleep once in a while (and some sun too)

No, but you wont get the entirety of the DLC either. Trion stated that they do not want to separate you from your friends, but if you don't pay for the DLC then you will not get anything more than more land to explore. No new weapons, mods, vehicles, races, etc.

I'm in the same boat of those feeling already bored. The game is really bland. Your character basically stays the same, ever, being perks and gear so slightly relevant. I don't understand that choice. Why not give us some significant progression and, eventually, for sake of pvp, normalize stats across the board, like in gw2, so there's no advantage?
It might soar a bit if the story gets a little interesting being tied to the show. But i can't really see how such a shallow gameplay could keep people invested

The only problem I have with game, which will stop me from continuing playing after I've been the game is the lack of progression in Defiance.

Leveling up doesn't feel like an accomplishment and the lack of weapon progression disappoints me. Everything you find is literally just as good, or worse than what you already have. There is no excitement in regards to loot what-so-ever.

I just wish there were more RPG elements in Defiance in regards to weapon progression and loot. There's no point in showing off what weapon you found/got when everyone has the same thing. There are like 20 weapons, but hundreds of mods... Mods that do little tiny things to make the gun slightly different. If they had more progression in the game, it'd make things a lot more fun, and more people would probably play it.

The game is definitely worth the $60 I paid... But its not a game that will hold me over once I've beaten it, and done all I can do.

It is an MMOTPS. MMO only means persistant world where lots of players can interact with eachother. That is ALL MMO means. It has nothing to do with any feature, content, depth, progression, etc. So it feels like an MMOTPS. What it doesnt feel like is an MMORPG. Which is a good thing. I didnt pay to play a MMORPG, I paid for a MMOTPS. It isnt supposed to be an RPG and was never claimed as such. People for some odd reason assumed it was a full blown RPG and came in expecting RPG stuff, even though nobody ever claimed Defiance is an MMORPG.

I still really dont get it. When I bought COD: Black Ops 2, I didnt expect to get a futuristic Skyrim. I dont think anyone ever did. So why when purchasing a different shooter does everyone expect RPG?

Dont know about the rest of you but when I want to play an RPG, I buy an RPG. I dont buy a shooter, or racing game, or sports game, or platformer, or puzzle game and then proceed to complain endlessly that it isnt an RPG and it doesnt have in depth character progression, 100 hours of story driven content, amazing loot / gear system, etc. Do all of you complaining about Defiance not having RPG features do that? If not, then why not? I mean, you certainly have no problem doing it with Defiance. Why havent you also done it for every single non-RPG game youve ever bought?

I bought the new Devil May Cry awhile back. Why? Because I wanted a fun action game to entertain me for awhile. I didnt go raging on some forums somewhere that it didnt have all the features and content of Skyrim, KoA, or any other RPG.

    Just makes no sense whatsoever.

PS: Fishboy, this is only partially directed at you. Much of it is just directed at the thread / several of the posters in general not specifically you.
