Thread: A poor port.

  1. #1

    A poor port.

The game plays fine on PC, but the UI is so blatantly designed for consoles in mind. The chat system is the worst I've ever seen, and the inventory system is your basic console RPG system (like various "tabs" that you switch between with the bumper buttons). Also, what's up with having to enter a menu and then press and hold spacebar in order to get the real menu? lolwut?

Do you think we'll ever see a total overhaul on the PC version?

I certainly hope so, it is rather unintuitive..
Still, there are a lot of other issues I'd prefer to see fixed before an UI overhaul.

You know you dont have to do the spacebar thing right? Just click (or double click?) on it.

Also what exactly is "bad" about the chat. I get that nothing beyond a local chat is an issue, but its far from the 1st game to do so. Aside from that, it functions pretty much like any other standard chat. Press Enter, type stuff, words appear on screen to others.

Except the words very often don't appear to others. Group chat works, Area chat sometimes works, clan chat doesn't work at all.

Oh, and their in-game VOIP is tied to the chat client so if you turn that off in order to avoid listening to some slack jawed nitwit breath heavily for a few minutes then you can't talk to anyone at all.

There's also the fact that on the UI you can only see one line of text for about three seconds before it's gone and the only way to check over "recent" messages is to open up that large and bulky window that makes you completely unable to perform any other function.

UI is some of the worst I have seen for a PC game.

    Horrible, barely useful chat system.

Horrible UI. I doubt they will fix the UI. But what they should do at least (I don't know if this is possible b/c I'm not a modder) is to release some way to customize/mod the UI. Then the modders out there can do Trion's job and fix the UI for us. People modded the UI for just about every mmo out there, so I'm hoping that it is/can be possible for Defiance also.

This answers some of the questions posted in this thread http://community.defiance.com/en/201...till-have-lag/

I would imagine UI will stay, chat will get fixed on 15th.

The UI is a little sloppy in places, also the chat system is terribad, but otherwise I find it perfectly fine. I'd like to see some additions like being able to mass salvage but I can't see any other problems with it. Having to hold space or click 1 button to get another menu system up is really not that big of a deal, neither is a tab system.

These two posts point out that the chat system is fine as it is in the sense it does exist, it does function and it is not intrusive - as they intended. What it requires is some minor adjustments, such as a longer delay before text fade, fix broken guild chat and to be exclusive from the voice communications status (on/off).

Still no need for a zone channel though.
