128 shots in the mag, 416 damage or so with each shot. what beats that?
whats up with shotguns? got some new type at ego 300, its does 9x 48 damage. i thought maybe there where some hidden numbers, tried it. it didnt do any damage... so whats the point? why would anyone use it?
so far i cant se any reason to use anything else then a saw
Shotguns are deadly and extremly powerfull in any game, if you learn to master it, it is a hard weapon to master but once you do you are unbeatable.
Later on you find more exotic weapons. I found a sawed off shotgun that deals 1,919 damage per shot, but instead of pellets, it fired two sticky grenades that explode on a timer. Not as good as my Cluster Shot combat shotgun that fires a frag grenade, nor as cool as my Big Boomer detonator. It takes a while, but eventually you find weapons that are better. Against Hellbugs and most 99ers, I've found some Infectors to be surprisingly powerful and much easier on ammo than an LMG.Originally Posted by Rumshot
well sound like it's weak shotgun you pick up i use one for long time it dose 90x8 damage per fire and shot 3 shot off each time. also has trigger effect to when triggers dose extra 450 damage from each shell come out the shotgun. If hit more then 1 target has chance trigger the effect on all the targets nice little extra. But in all it's on what weapon you like.
yeh, but shotguns have reload time, i can fire 256 shots with out reloading with overpower. when i reload you have spent 5minuts reloading... loosing a bunch of dps
Shotgun is known for its burst damage. However, it lacks sustainable damage.
The SAW is a very powerful weapon - good damage, stacks of ammo and effective from range as well as up close. I have found a heavy AR that does more damage per shot and similar accuracy and rate of fire, but nothing like the magazine size.
there are a few types of shotguns and the stats can vary wildly, but if you can get up close and hit critical areas they cause massive amounts of damage. I find these particularly useful during arkfalls on the flying hellbug exposing its tail.
My Primary loudout consists of a Pump action shotgun (FRC Scattergun) and a maxed out SAW (128 clip, 444 damage). Tasty in all situations.
For PvE if you aren't using a SAW LMG you're doing it wrong.
Nothing can beat it's raw DPS it can put out. Even at burst fire it has great accuracy for distance shots against sniper mobs. Even if you just multiple DPS/Fire Rate it always wins. With an Overcharge spec (Bloodlust, Quickcharge, Assassin's Cache, Preparedness, Killing Machine, Detachment) often times I'll go into Co-Op Maps with two LMGs and come out at 150% or 200% of the next highest person and I'm just using store bought base SAWs (mostly to keep the XP rolling). Often times when doing Major Arkfalls I always end up in the top 3 depending on how quick I got there. If I'm there at the beginning I'm always #1. When I use my SAW with crit multiplier it's even crazier (does around 750 per shot in the head). Speaking of which, I still get crit kills all the time meaning I never run out of ammo. When I buy my Frontier SAW with ammo regen it'll be game over Rambo style.
When not using two LMGs, I agree with your Cluster Shot assessment as being the best explosive type of weapon even though it's a combat shotgun. Fast firing, very minor explosive radius, but still an explosive so it knocks stuff around which is what I want it for and fast reload. Decent damage output.
Everything else I've found to be garbage or mediocre. The Assault Rifles aren't bad (the fully automatic ones) because their ROF and damage comes close to the SAW (75%) but are much more accurate at mid range. They also have a longer fall off however making them harder to do better at extreme range. The supremely fast but really low damage guns (SMGs, Blast Rifles, etc) are pretty terrible. Even Semi Autos and Tactical Rifles in the same time frame I can deal way more damage with the LMG.
I did run into one person who looked like they were using an Assault Carbine and blew me out of the water but I am not sure what she was using outside of it being an Assault Carbine with Siphon and couldn't get a response out of what they were doing. She pulled off something like 2.8 million when I was the next highest with 600k and everyone else was in the 100-200k range. I'd watch her get on things and the HP bar would just melt. Would still like to know exactly what she was doing.

45x8, circle shot, pump, 20 shell capacity...kills 2 regular joe NPC or 1 elite. BTW, its very fast reload and pump action but it lacks that "burst damage" you are talking about, only useful for clearing skitterlings. Now the sticky grenade launching sawed off....pfft give me that one over a grenade launcher anyday
