I really like the VOT rifles, but why are all the ones in the vendors so weak. Is it just a typo, or is their damage really 40. Feels kind of weak since all of my rifles have been upwards of 200+

I'm pretty sure the one that does 40 dmg shoots 3 bullets for every 1 round.
not a typo from what ive seen. I had the same complaint myself and it makes 0 sense to get any of them and waste your rep or scrip on them. you would think that they would be compareable or better then most drops but not so much.
ah yeah if you have damage numbers on it's just clusters of 40's coming off them it's awesome specially with siphon.
There's also another votan rifle that does 172, has similar firing rate, 45 round mags, and so on. I've only come across one in my play, but it does exist.
yeah there's two types one is like a normal AR the one with 40 dmg is more like a super fast SMG.
It has more to do with rate of fire as opposed to individual round dmg. So I have an AR that does almost 300 per round that impacts, but it has a slower rate of fire than the ones that do 40 or so, because those rifles are able to fire a lot more rounds faster their overall dmg output equals out.
At least that is the intent...
I can understand slapping on some insane recoil, but the spread of the burst makes it fairly worthless past 10 feet or so, win which case a shotgun or SMG would probably serve you better. I would happily trade heavier recoil for a tighter burst pattern, and the damage seems sub-par in comparison to other weapons in the ego range I have tested in the Vot Ar's I've found.

It's not listed anywhere on the gun that it does this, but after equipping one and testing out it does shoot multiple projectiles per round. It's still pretty useless though since at a range you miss with almost all of them, and up close you could just be using an SMG.
