Is Defiance a major flop for Syfy?

For those not following the ratings this weeks episode, the 9th, pulled in only 1.6 million viewers. During its first season Sanctuary pulled an average of 2.36 million viewers.

With critics giving it mediocre reviews and viewers apparently agreeing, the idea that Defiance would be a major move in reestablishing Syfy as a credible scifi network is over. Despite the money Syfy put into the show its seen as just another so-so effort by the network.

Despite the money, the video game and the hype Defiance hasn't even been a blip on the tv landscape. Shows like Eureka, Battlestar Galactica and Warehouse 13 were noticed and written about by mainstream media. Defiance has dropped completely off that radar.

I guess we can always hope the RDM show Helix will be decent.

????????The show Defiance is over. Defiance the game, at once being tied to the show, is now far removed from it. If this is a troll thread, then I guess I took the bait. Anywho, happy Black friday! Trump bless

My opinion of the show was it was it was pretty decent. The world and characters were well thought out however the story was cheesy in some parts. Makes me kind of disappointed that this game didn't run with the all of the characters and world. It has tinges of the show but this game could have been so much more.

    For a second, I thought I was reading a necro'd thread.
They say most of your brain shuts down on the Defiance forums. All but the impatient side, and the sarcastic side. No wonder I'm still awake.

The way that networks still collect data is so antiquated it's not even funny. They still use NELSON boxes ffs.

For those that are not familiar with this; The networks assign a certain number of families a "box" (think another DVD to hook up) so they can monitor what that family watches. Supposedly they take a "sampling" of all segments of society (poor, rich, redneck, dead, etc) to make an overall "fair" rating for each show.

This may have worked fairly well in 1979, but with the advent of the internet and the information age, the networks really need to step out of the dark ages and utilize the data off of the cable providers. They don't do this due to "privacy" issues. And anyone that believes that's stopping them....I have a bridge in Defiance I'll sell you for 5200 bits ^.~

My point is; I believe that the show was doing MUCH better than the ratings actually show. They had some very fine actors, and the stories were well written and immersive. I will admit that by season 3, the drama was ratcheting up to a level that needed to be pruned back in an inventive way. that is, too much was happening and needed to be wrapped up, but in a way to keep suspense going so people would still want to know what was going to happen.

Besides, I miss seeing Stalhma in the bath ^.^

SyFy failed Defiance. Not the other way around; but way to beat a dead horse.
