This also helps high ego players play in the beginning area and the early coops with friends without them one shifting everything.

All higher damage weapons do is cause them to put more HP on mobs and players. Its all relative. You just chase a ceiling that keeps going up. What is the point. Why inflate all the stats and damage? Just so you can see higher numbers?

Play for fun. Play to complete pursuits. Play to level weapons. Play to PvP and defeat others.

No need to play for a higher number weapon.

These are all great points. In most games when you get higher level gear or higher stats on weapons it is purely to fight the others with higher level gear or weapons. Or in a PvE environment you end up just fighting enemies that can do damage at really high levels as well as have much higher xp.

Most games for PvP scale everyone up to be equal. Those that do better are those with more perks, skills, or attacks. This game everything is scaled down so they don't have to artificially change numbers, change the power of enemies, or anything of that nature. Those that have more perks, geared towards their play style will always be better than those just starting off.

The lack of progression in weapons is all mental. The weapons get better, just the base stats don't go up 100x like in most games. At the same time the enemies also don't have 100x higher HP to have to get rid of because of this and everyone can play on a equal ground in the open world.

it does need work but its not just weapon bonuses or simple modding....
You can get synergy mod combos.
Your not counting the skills learned for advanced weapon handling buffs.
(Yes grabbing a fresh weapon to continue lvling Skill is annoying; BUT tbh the upside is its also a way to unlock an innate on a weapon. (after it reaches max lvl.)
Word is they are looking to add another salvaging option to reset the weapons lvl for Scrip. (why have at all tho)
Although I wouldn't really intentionally do so unless 1 or 2 innates already on the weapon.

There is a lot more to it then most people think.

But yeah its got holes in the idea everywhere. Which only really take in consideration having a max toon; max perks etc. Which tech can take forever. Ie I mean useless for low to mid lvls.

Tbh tho you can get some really nice gear (including shields with resists and an innate also.) Its just it takes an obscene amount of work and luck. Even out of those synergies for example many are junk. But yeah its a misconception that you cant improve weapon dmg. Only base stats is same. Thats because a weapon can have 2+ Innates, fully synergy mods with even more bonuses to weapon and your Max Skill bar for the Family the weapon belongs to gives tons also. Your talking a lot of buffing to those base states.
Thats what the difference between those lower lvl guys with weapons and higher lvl. The base its the same; the bonuses are drastic.
I even have a rifle with ranged knockdown

    I like the current system.

Looking for random weapons with better stats is awesome fun. I also enjoy that progression is very very tiny. This means I can play with anyone and really the only advantage you will gain is better skill and having more knowledge about the game.

Oddly though, all my weapons keep resetting once they hit max. I noticed this today, I would start playing and all my maxed weapons would reset and start advancing again.

Ok.. I'll throw out a few personal points here:

#1: Weapons progression IS in the game. Pay attention, because people are EXPLAINING it to you. Just because your at ego 350 and "finished everything" and "seen everything".. well.. sorry, but your wrong. If you had "finished everything", you would have gotten all the pursuits done, and had an ego level over 450. Later on in the game you start seeing those synergies and variances in weapons.. so take the time and work there.

#2: Personal Opinion: WoW is NOT a "winning product". WoW is the SMEGGMA of the MMO community coated with a heavy dose of crack to keep the grinding/raiding/whining community playing. Adding Panda's just made it even worse. And yes, I ALPHA TESTED WOW, so I know exactly what I'm talking about. Comparing THIS GAME to WoW is like comparing a tired old 72 Nova with a slant 6 to a shiny new Porsche.. it's apples and oranges, and frankly, people who do it show they have no concept of what GAMING is.

#3: People want progression, well.. news flash.. there is literal A**TONS of progression in Defiance! Rushing to the "end game" of a video game that's tied in with a TV show, which coincidentally hasn't even aired it's first episode yet, is like wearing a condom under your prom tux.. ie.. your putting the cart ahead of the horse! (Especially when a few who do that don't even have a prom date!)

#4: The important part: This is a SKILL BASED GAME. NOw.. is bunny hopping and back-shotting someone really skillful? IMO, nah.. not really. And that being said, I take the knock on some of the achievements and the large XP boost from PVP by NOT involving myself in PvP. I've never been huge on PvP anyways. I've said for awhile now that that needs to be looked at, as well as the ability to "reset" the individual weapon xp to keep leveling up the class XP, as well as get a different random modification/bonus that fits with your play style. The Dev's have addressed this, and hopefully we'll see it coming soon (which is why I'm NOT using my Firestorm in game, that gun is AWESOME!) in one of the updates.. ya know.. like the 8 PAGE PATCH that's coming in a few days when the show launches. *crosses fingers*

The bottom line.. ladies and gents.. this is not a game that's been done before.. it's not a system that's been tried before.. and it's a whole new ball of wax. Trions done a great job of getting the game even to market (even with it's quirks and need-fix's) in the short time span. And let's not forget the TV show tie-in, which holds a LOT of promise. You can't have end game without even having the first TV show air.. *SMH*...

So..instead of insulting people's intelligence of mindset on how the game COULD be, let's learn how the game IS, and then teach from there. At least the OP took the time to read that page that was linked (and I agree, even tho it meanders a bit, it was a GREAT READ and really helped me understand the weapons mod process), and that's what each of us SHOULD be doing.

IN closing.. I want each of you to think of this:

A game is ONLY as good as it's COMMUNITY. With a crappy community, you may as well be playing a solo game, or playing WoW, which is reknowned for it's totally heartless, lackluster, pvp-frag-kill-happy, ******ging community that doesn't help new players learn ANYTHING other than how amazingly awesome some idiots think they are. With an AMAZING community, you have players helping each other learn.. helping each other by teaming, sharing items, tips, tricks, and hints to finish harder missions (Bullet for a Badman anyone?), and by helping new players learn the ropes of things that are important in the game. THis is what the game community of City of Heroes had, and look at that community.. the games been closed for MONTHS, and the community is STILL STRONG and STILL TOGETHER on many venues, and even working on building their own game!

Choose your community.. choose your standard.. and that, friends and neighbors.. is what makes a game live or die for many diehard old school gamers.

I think they need progression and to make it a fair playing pvp system to where you can only play with people that are within 1000 levels.

LOL @ this game isn't a gear grind. Leveling your weapon skill is as grindy as it gets in any mmo and it is by far the most beneficial thing you can do in the game, a guy with level 20 in ar's with a white unmodded ar will smoke a guy whos level 2 with an orange full modded ar.

People just don't like the bland weapon progression and im one of them, never liked it and never will which is why this game will always be a secondary game to me that I will probably quit the second the show is canceled.

DPS on a white AR no mods over 2 clips:

    333 DMG
    10/s fire rate
    20 CLIP
    2 second reload

13320 dmg over firing time over 6 seconds = 2220 dps

DPS for blue same type AR with mods over 2 clips:

    FIRE NANO 5% burn 50dmg/second
    x1.4 mag
    x1.03 fire rate
    x0.9 reload

    333 DMG
    10.3/s fire rate
    28 CLIP
    1.8s reload

18648 dmg over 7.24 seconds = 2576 dps NOT counting potential NANO effects

That's with 3/6 potential stat bonuses and syngergies.

EGO 1028 and still getting upgrades, just takes the right combo

They will be having dlc, updates and so on. I would assume they have a reason for it being this way. I love borderlands but Defiance is much better. I hated the fact on borderlands I was basically invisible.
