So something magical will happen on the 15th that adds months worth of content? If it does I'll be pleasantly suprised but it wont happen

All MMOS are never finished but recently people have been using this excuse to give free pass to half *** releases.

I'm with Merrin on this. The point of the beginning is so that people can get used to the feel of the game so they can familiarize themselves with the game. But here's the thing it's a shooter, an mmo, but still a shooter. I am a person who has low expectations for every game. Come on lets face it you ever had low expectations for a game and loved the game because it satisfied those expectations. So it doesn't have shiny gear and neat weapons that make you go "I want that!" but again it's a shooter. You ever play call of duty? How about Crysis, Halo, or Bioshock? All the weapons are available to your use, yes you have to earn them but they look they EXACT same as every other gun. The assault rifle in halo looks like the assault rifle the other person is using. The rivet gun in Bioshock looks like the rivet gun the other guy has. The DSR-50 looks like the DSR-50 in Black ops 2. Yet people are satisfied with these games. The reason being because, People enjoy killing things. Yes this is an mmo so yes it should have some nice little things to it but this is only a start let the first dlc come out then decide if the game is really so bad because in the end it is still a shooter. The point of shooters is to kill things most of the time right?

Your forgetting the lack of base weapons getting better base values as you level.

Aye, this is good advice, since Defiance is buy2play, you can always take a break and come back later anytime you please. So if your that bored, just take a break for now, come back in a month or so and see how its doing then.

The difference is, the other games are GOOD at being shooters. This isnt very good at it but has MMO and PvE attributes to make up for it, both of which are terrible.

Except this case hinges on later content releases. Defiance is a game that is supposed to develop along with the show. It's not just a game based on a show (or vice-versa). If they want this game to evolve with the show they have to release content at a pace to go along with the show. This is something that has NEVER been done before, so we are experiencing a new way to develop a game. Weather it works or not remains to be seen, and that is just it, we haven't seen the full experience. Heck, we haven't even gotten to the first episode of the show part of this symbiotic relationship. If you bought this game expecting 100% of the content on launch you missed the point of what they are trying to do.
