Progression in this game is TOOOOOO slow....

I figure I have about 30 hours /played time (yea, I got outside and stuff). So I’ll give this game my 30 hour review.

I’ll try to be REAL brief.

Pros:
• PVE Combat. Pretty good. I dig the AI in this game. Mobs will keep you on your toes (or back!) all the time.
• Vehicles. ZOOM ZOOM! Can’t say any more than that.
• Story/Quests/Missions. Not the greatest, but the story is pretty good. So it gets a +.
• Weapons. The vast variety of weapons we have in this game is really good.

Cons:
• Ark Falls. I played Rift, so been there – done that. How original! *shrug*
• MMO + Console = /failsauce. I had no idea this was a console game, or I’d not have bought it. Honestly.
• Lacks features you’d expect from an MMO. Player store, vault, mail… I could list a dozen things.
• Chat. God do I need to even say anything on this?
• UI is horrible. I know - it’s a console game. What should you expect?
• Terrain. OK, so we have dune buggies and 4 wheelers. Why is the ground LITTERED with rocks, trees, rubbish, vertical hills, I mean really…. Getting around can be a REAL pain in the keester… and just about any time you fall in the water, you have to swim around a while to find a place that is level enough to crawl out of the water. What is with the steep terrain EVERYWHERE?????

OK, I’ll save the worst – and the title – for last.
• Progression.
- EGO
In comparison to games that have max level of 50 – this game having max ego of 5000 - in my 30 hours of play time, I still have not reached [level 4]. Yea, that’s right – LEVEL 4. I’m at 383 ego. I have NEVER progressed this slowly in any other game I’ve played… Ever!
It's not that I don't know how to play the game - I've placed 1st on 4 or 5 major ark falls (always in the top 10).

- Weapons
I’ve Killed 100,000 bugs and zombies with my assault rifle. I am still skill level 3 with it (and I think I was given 1 level for pre-ordering!)
At the rate I am playing, it will take 3 years just to max out 1 character. Yea, like that’s going happen.

So for you guys who have 2000-3000 ego already – grats I guess? Now go take a shower.

There is nothing in this game that is going to hold my attention for too much longer.

My last thoughts. I’m just going to play through the quests, and side quests from now on (screw the ark falls… I’ve already done all of major ones 4 times each – at least) – and see how my progression has done from that. If it continues on this slow crawl, or even gets worse. I’ll be done.

Just think, after another 80hrs of play, you'll still be a lvl 4 Ark Hunter. Isnt balance great!

oh no.. it gets WAY better. Youll go and do all those puursuits.. WASTE hours upon HOURS trying to get silver medals in bugged timed quests or Hotshots. And after all that.... youll find that your toon hasnt really progressed at all. im almsot 1300 EGO and i just salvaged 12 1k+ purple/orange Assault Rifles bs they arent better than the ego 49 purple one that i have. But oh yeah... i have a few extra perk slots.. soooo.. yea my cloak lasts 9 seconds longer and i do a bit more mellee dmg when my sheild is recharging......

I’m just going to play through the quests, and side quests from now on (screw the ark falls… I’ve already done all of major ones 4 times each – at least) – and see how my progression has done from that.

I did as much as I could in the first zone, but then grew weary of the side missions/trials etc.. so I started only doing the main mission. I will probably come back and do all the side missions once I finish the main mission, but for now I like the story.

I think of progression as being more horizontal in this game, if they let players advance in power too much it breaks pvp and separates players too much (new and old).

The roadside missions/random events that you stumble upon usually give the best reward to time though... at least from my noobish observations.


That said my favorite thing in this game without a doubt is the co-op maps. They are very high quality., layout boss fights etc, just need to be more rewarding (maybe make a super hard mode version which can have better rewards).

As to the leveling of your assault weapon...

Are you aware that once you max exp on a particular weapon (actual weapon, not type, each has an individual "xp bar"), that you will no longer get skill ups in the relevant weapon skill?

This happens to alot of people, they don't know that crucial bit of info because it kind of buried in the virtual manual.

90% of the negativity in these forums could have been avoided with RESEARCH. this isnt your typical WoW type, hand held mmo. somethings are different and need to be explored or tested. pay attention to what is going on with your character and weapons.

How is it that people who obviously cant read, always come up with understandings of the passages that suit their own tiny minds. The guy is not saying his WEAPON SKILL is lvl 3. he is saying.. that he is basically the equivalent of a lvl 3 in a standard game. that is.. out of 5000 ego.. he is only only at 6% of his max. if the game were to be equated to a level 50 game.. he would be LVL 3. Its not that hard to understand. You would rather assume that hes missing some key piece of information, thus making you so cool bc you know that "key piece of information". If after 30 hours of playing WOW at release.. i was still lvl 5.. i doubt WOW would have been as successful.

Fixing your cons:

Arkfall - This is not a con for those who haven't played rift...so let's scratch this completely. They are fun, new(to an extent) and can be a lot of fun if you have a group (see who does best)
MMO+Console = Fail? Please tell me why...it's natural progression for MMO's to come to Console....this con=HUGE fail.
Features - WTF? Why do you need mail? Oh you want to twink a new toon! Gotcha....vault? So what we don't have a huge lock box to store all your goodies...guess you can't horde...guess you shoulda listed those dozen things....
UI = Fail? Maybe if you're "derp-derp" and can't figure it out...but you think mmo on a console is fail...shows how much sense you've got there...
Terrain = After a HUGE spaceship falls from space littering pieces of it everywhere over the bay area, explosions...terraforming...let me guess you have no friggin clue about this lore do you? I haven't had an issue AT ALL with this..you're just looking for something to complain about.
Weapons - Maybe you need more skill, I've yet to kill 100, 000 things with my AR..say it was more like 500 and I'm lvl 2 with it already...and lvl 2 with snipers, sub machine guns, and already lvl 3 with lmgs...btw my ego is 214...so..yeah..again...get skill?

Here's a small idea...LEARN THE GAME...or ****... you're trying to poke holes with a wet noodle...if this game is so terrible go back to your PC mmo's and listen to "You're not geared enough" 24/7 oh, and that's a smaller idea...maybe the reason why this game doesn't put onus on gear...is because like a lot of us they think these "God type" characters need to be a thing of the past.
