For those who feel there is too little progression...

...get to around 800-1000 EGO rating and then create a new character and compare what its like to start fresh. Your new character is going to feel slow and 'clunky'. Trust me - there is progression - this is a game about small numbers having significant impact. You may not feel it right away - but take the time to compare your progression to that of a new character and it is apparent. No you wont be doing a crap-ton more damage but the entire experience becomes more fluid and you ARE more powerful.

Yeah, I really don't understand people saying all of the kind of stuff about there being no progression. I think they are insane. I'm only at 600 and I can feel a HUGE change in my character already. Each new perk slot unlocked offers so much more.

It is super slow but its also a game meant for longevity.

If you saw a huge difference and maxed out in a week but were super powerful the complaint would be "what now" similar to Borderlands.

Im not sure this system will be better but I can say it lends itself to longevity more I believe.

Ive said this a million times but tweaking the mods either to let you craft them in more places instead of two vendors with lvl 1's and at Specizal Vendors or have them drop/reward them more then from side missions would fix a lot os this complaint because people would be modfing weapons more regularly and start seeing difference more.

I think people just want instant gratification and want to be carried a bit more by their gear is the biggest issue at hand right now.

Yeah good mods make a pretty damn big difference - despite what folks might think.

It struck me that this games system is similiar to Eve's in the fact that small numbers slowly add up to have a pretty major impact. Hell just driving around on a new character feels slow compared to my 1000+.

I guess folks are just used to seeing numbers change and thus thats ingrained as the only sort of progression that matters. Obviously, +10 armor is not as good as +20 - but thats not the system here in Defiance.

Your dps isnt based purely on damage numbers - its based on falloff, accuracy, base damage, nano-element, recoil, etc. So increasing your damage output lies in making your weapon more efficient. And its much like that in the real world - a 5.56 round doesnt start doing more damage - but when you have a scope you're good with and a comfortable rifle - you can put more rounds on target and therefore inflict more damage

Finally, someone that understands the concepts behind it all. If a weapon reloads 25% faster, can sustain accurate fire 25% longer, is 50% more accurate and has 25% more range; wouldn't you think that would make one hell of a difference?

Progression is especially apparent if you're exploiting mob weakpoints properly. Those 1.05x damage multipliers and 1.1x critical multipliers and 2-6% perks make a huge difference late game against shielded enemies.

I hate when I swap to a lower damage sniper rifle to continue leveling my proficiency and/or see if this new toy has a nice mastery... only to find that my headshots no longer 1hit shielded normal mobs.

But it does make the eventual switch back to the higher damage sniper rifle and 'sploding dark matter heads that much more satisfying.

Its not just the perk slots from ego as well. On level 14 assault rifles now and can feel a big jump from all the little bonus already. Add them to the perks and the difference from new chars to old chars is massive.

Theres also the fact that this game does require skill to be truly effective. I'd wager alot of folks that are having a hard time are used to hotkey based online games where numbers mean more than your ability to aim and dodge.
