Oh, think about it the other way too. Currently, enemies are pretty well scaled to you, just by virtue of the way weapon progression works. So with a high EGO weapon, you would either lolburst down all the lowbie npcs, or they somehow have to code the enemies to scale based on who is shooting at them. Heck even adding new content to the game would be a nightmare with WOW style progression.
Either way you slice it, the current system turns out to be the more elegant and appropriate solution.
