On PC, yeah, the racing is rough if you're using a keyboard. I plug in a joystick for the racing, usually get a silver. Can't complete one of the madera runs, I keep falling through the world

For time trials
change the boost button to something that you can use with right hand.. for example mouse 4 or mouse 5 buttons(if you have it on your mouse)
if you use Lshift for boost and also control the vehicle with WASD buttons eventually i n long timetrials you might get tired and loose focus..
My issue with it is how sometimes it's not synced with the server. My clock says that I just crossed the finish line at 2:02, and the server thinks I crossed it at 2:04. Frustrating when you get cheated out of golds that way.
I've even had one actually had me START the race at 0:03 seconds, as in the timer was going as EGO was giving the countdown to even be able to move.
I think it has to do with the progressive turning mechanism this game has. The longer you turn, the more you turn which can be excruciating for those who lag just a bit.
Racing is not too hard...
whats with all the crying about things being too hard.. I'm 8/9 now (missing Cerberus.) and none of them have been TOO challenging
My Racing Tips:
1. Use a Runner most of the game. It's tempting to use your Challenger or Truck but ranking up Runners is incredibly helpful. At 18 skill you get +16% speed base and enough Boost Amount, Boost Regen and Boost Increase that it really helps shave the time off on challenges. Not only that, but it gets you used to the handling of the Runners and their controls which are much different than vehicles.
2. Change the Boost hot key. It's pretty hard to try to turn left with A at the same time as going to hit Sprint with Left Shift. I changed it to Mouse 1 and Horn to Mouse 2. Get used to driving like this for a few days so it becomes innate.
3. No turn on any course requires the hand brake. Just easing off forward (W) and turning that way will keep you going and won't utterly destroy your momentum like the hand brake will.
4. If you get an event on the track get off the bike and clear it. You'll fail but it'll save you any frustrations when trying running it. Yesterday I had to clear 4 events off a course cause they kept respawning and messing me up but eventually they stayed down.
5. Certain gates will give you a boost and that means at that section you're supposed to boost on through. For example the first track every gate is a boost gate meaning you're supposed to do it with the boost held down the entire time. Most commonly the game throws you boost gates prior to hills cause it knows hills will destroy your momentum.
6. Learn the course. There are certain courses where going left of a rock is better than right. Jumping off a hill a certain direction will work better than another. Experiment going through it a few times and figure that stuff out and don't worry about the time. Certain courses (such as the top two in San Fran) require you to land properly in certain spots and boost at the right time so it's good to learn the optimal way to do that.
7. Gates just have to be passed through even on the sides. You don't have to drive through the middle, just get the credit. Sometimes it's best to go through the edges of the gate because it lines up better for the next gate.
8. Look where the next gate is and aim for that. Sometimes those gates you can't see under the hills are super far off and tiny so you know you have a dead space to cross and will want to manage your boost smartly.
Those are the things I figured out going through and getting my Golds. By far the biggest one was #1 and #2 for me as I went back and did my golds (had silvers for pursuits before) and was Rank 18 Runners and the whole thing was pretty easy. The two toughest courses I had were the top two in San Fran (single mistake and you lose the gold in many cases) and the one on the far east in Marin.

It's pretty fair in my opinion. Some of them are pretty tight when it comes to what makes you gold & what makes you silver but it shouldn't take you more than a 2nd or 3rd try to pull out a gold if you didn't manage it on the first.
Don't be insulted because i don't wanna explain myself, i was probably joking anyway.
Was able to get the black challenger in a day. If anything it felt kinda easy with only one or two courses requiring more than one try.
I can usually get at least a silver on my first try or two. Now the hotshot type missions, like the chicken mission, took me like 20 tries, i about gave up on that.
