my plan basically was going to run through first day leveling meeting and getting acquainted with mechanics. after maybe some PvP to kill & make new friends. figured I would wait on things like shadow wars till I was invited or had a strong grasp.
thanks for all the help, my friends play wow and so far keep telling me different things. most of what they say has me worried I'm going to get my *** handed to me every few seconds
They'll more than likely be similar to Borderlands seeing as Defiance isn't an MMORPG. They will have cheap attacks, that will make healing important. However, when isn't healing important? Now whether or not they'll be more chaotic like Borderlands bosses, or more patternized has yet to be seen. If I would have to guess, I would expect less patterns more chaos, since shooters try to avoid predictability.
    Madness in its sweetest form.

Whats good with this game is that its not made to have it that everyone can just kill you right off the bat. Shadow Wars, for instance, you can see all the action happening and just be a spectator. Then if you want to join in, you queue up and just join the action.

I dont think youll be just destroyed every few seconds either. From the scope of the game, there will be PLENTY of people running around to help out and they'll be complete strangers. I know I like to back up people even if I dont know them if they look like they are in trouble. Just pay it forward (cliché I know)

Also had a few questions like What are guilds for, and is it recommended to get into one, also how do saves work in a persistent world.

guilds are basically a clan.. as for what you should do.. treat it like any single player or non mmo multiplayer game only difference is while youre out exploring youll run into other players you may help you or you can help.. and lastly saves in a persitent world are usually handled server wise

also, take advantage of the fact that its an MMO and try to group a lot rather than playing solo, will be more fun that way (though you could play solo too if you felt like)

    Defiance =/= WoW.

In WoW your only shot at being better is generally to roll w/all the elitist pricks. I just don't see that happening in Defiance nearly as much. Most people I play with (on xbox) like to win and are very competitive, but we each have a few friends that just aren't that good at the games we play and we still play with them because we like the company. That helps them get better without feeling like a piece of crap who doesn't show up. You won't find that in WoW, ever.

As mentioned before, just play the game, if your friends play it play with them. You'll meet new people and find your niche eventually. I wouldn't worry about it yet.

with wow a lot of people that are diehards and have played since the beginning will only give you advice to a point, if they feel you are a waste of time they wont bother with you, and there's no real true way to play an MMO, everyone plays differently, so find a playstyle that works for you, and if people don't like that tell them to f*** themselfs, it's your game and play it how your comfortable, and if people don't feel like offering you advice don't get discouraged just keep asking people because not everyone is an *** and they will help in anyway possible

Most things will be explained in the tutorial, other things will be explained by more experienced people! Make sure you learn how to group with people and they will teach you what you need to know. If they can't then you can learn as you go along with them. lol. If people are being jerks, dont worry about it and just find someone else, it isn't that common but their are always some around.

well being that defiance is an MMO third person shooter RPG. i would say, if you can play shooters, from gears to borderlands to anything in between or outside that scope, you should be fine. borderlands is basically a shooter rpg, as you are playing the role of character x and making your way through the world by doing various missions for various people, etc. only real difference i find in rpg games from other games is the depth into which you can customize your character and missions and such (dragon age for example).

as said, MMO simply means a LOT of people playing with you at the same time. you mentioned playing borderlands. from what i've seen, you can think of this as borderlands with about a million more people.

those people you can team up with through groups, or simply by being in the area from what i've seen of videos.

as for WoW. i played WoW, on a PvP server, there were areas where you were free game to anyone and everyone. in defiance however, PvE is the focus, and you wont be killed by another player unless you opt into playing a PvP mode (shadow wars and the deathmatch thing). and the fact that this is a shooter while WoW isnt will be a difference so a good shooter player may not get destroyed, even doing PvP from the start.

if this behaves like most MMOs in regards to social networking, you will have a friends list like your xbox one (may or may not have a limit), an ignore list, and a guild list the guild list is basically a friends list separate from your friends list.

a clan is a guild/outfit, depending on the term you are used to. and if you are not familiar with those words at all, its basically a group of people who gather together to play a game together. usually consists of people of similar age, mentality, goals in a game, etc.
Live as you want, life is only a moment in time, don't waste it.
